Have had a couple good work days. Door jamb pieces are tacked in and door tops are mocked up so I could get a good look at the side profile. Going to do my finish welding now on everything else. Not very experienced with the TIG but I am going to put it to use. Taking my time welding up all of the back, B-pillars, and A-pillars before I get the bracing out of the car and begin to figure out the door tops and garnish moldings. My TIG welding has improved quite a bit from beginning to end. Glad I decided to go that route so I could learn a new skill. Still a long ways off but feels like I am on the downhill side of the chop and can't screw it up too bad now. :) welding up top(4) 3.18.21.jpg welding up top(3) 3.18.21.jpg welding up top 3.18.21.jpg bracing out 3.19.21.jpg

Worked on the door top on the driver side last night. Since the A pillar is cut just slightly more than the B and C pillar it gives the top a slight rake. This provided a little challenge with getting the door top to gap correctly with the rain gutter. Also since the A pillars have been leaned back I had to rework the front of the door top and also add a new piece in the front so that the sheet metal all lined back up. It's amazing how many little things have to be changed. I provided before and after pictures. This was a little confusing for a novice so I reached out to a few people to get some guidance. Gap came out alright and will still be some minor fitting but I don't think its coming back apart. Both doors now tacked together and rolled outside so I could stand back and get a side profile. Now time to weld everything up. Pass door top tacked together(1) 3.23.21.jpg Pass door top tacked together 3.23.21.jpg Drivers door top tacked 3.23.21.jpg

Wow! It's looking really good! Nice stance! And a lot of photos to help me with my roof chop! Looking forward to the rest of your project.

Cut the winshield frame down and fitted and got tired of cleaning up all the welds so I decided to play mock up. Looks a little different from the side with the cross member moved forward. Now I need to get some weight on the front end so I can get the profile right. Lots still to do. Hopefully have the motor mostly assembled next week.

Thanks. Marching ahead is right. I find myself jumping around a little when I get tired of a specific task. Got to stay focused.

Been finishing up little tedious welding jobs around the car. As I go along my welding with the TIG is improving so I find myself going back over areas to clean them up. I got some parts from CW Moss yesterday and have started the mockup with the radiator. With the cross member forward in the frame 3" it will require some trimming since I am running a full hood on this car. 34 coupe door repair 4.25.21.jpg 34 coupe door repair(1) 4.25.21.jpg 34 coupe door repair and gapped 4.25.21.jpg

Had some time to flatten out the crossmember and come up with a solution on the feet of the radiator. I made the mistake of thinking I had everything dialed in and welded everything up then set the hood and radiator all in place only to find out that I am 1" to high on the radiator support brackets. Picture below you can see the inner fender panel to hood is 1" too far apart. Back to the drawing board to fix the issue. Got a little motivation seeing things come together though :) Radiator fix 5.11.21.jpg Radiator and hood mockup(3) 5.11.21.jpg Crossmember fix 5.11.21.jpg Radiator and hood mockup(1) 5.11.21.jpg Radiator and hood mockup 5.11.21.jpg

Great project, and looking forward to seeing it make some passes in the future! Looks like you've got some great help with Marty, and your other club members from Estranged.
I met Gale back when he was still in Raleigh Hills and we both had Austin cars. Was sorry to see him move to Hawaii, but even sadder to hear of his passing later. Any idea whatever happened to his yellow Austin?

No idea what happened with the yellow Austin. Asked my Dad who was pretty close with Gale and he didn't know either. Thanks for the compliments. Marty and the Estranged Club are definitely leaving their mark on this project. Should be fun!

That's got the look for sure! Quarter windows on a 5Window chop are so important to the overall look, you nailed it. Thanks for the view of the back yard, most people never get to see landscape like that. Bob

Had to redo the front crossmember changes to get the hood and grill to line up better. On my way to getting it welded up. Decided to get the firewall out so I can start to work on motor placement, etc. One more step closer. Had some time to play motor mock up today. I am solid mounting the motor so need to build tabs on the frame to pick up the motor plate both front and back. Also need to figure out where and how I am going to position the new firewall. Getting really close to finishing up the build on the motor that will be going in the car. Will post pictures of it soon. 34 motor mock up 6.4.21.jpg 34 motor mock up(2) 6.4.21.jpg 34 motor mock up(1) 6.4.21.jpg
