Born & raise In San Diego. Worked in the automotive business most all my life. Bought my first ride in 1973 at 15, a $100 63 Galaxie 500 to get me to my first Job at San Diego Foreign Junkyard. Been wrenching ever sense. Wrenching to Service Manager, 2 bay shops, to GM dealership, Never owned a Hotrod, work on many. Discovered Hamb while looking for info on my 56 Fairlane. Reading old post about Carlsbad raceway brought back some memories. My boss ran his "Rat Poison" Herny J 327 FI there, and my brothers ran a 69 Camero SS 350 and 70 Chev SS 454. I don't believe I'll have the time or money to restore the 56, I likely get it running good and make a driver out of it.
Welcome from Oklahoma! A running and driving 56 Fairlane will be way more fun than a restored one anyway. Edit: You should also check out this social group here for 52-59 Fords. Likely the best social group on the HAMB and tons of good info on your car. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/social-forums/1952-59-ford-social-group.282/
Welcome to the H.A.M.B. Great buncha guys and gals here, and an endless source of information. Post up some photos of your car. We love photos!
Welcome from Indiana. Drivers are good with us! Good luck and look forward to some pics. Regards, Randy Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Welcome from Arkansas! As a '56 Fairlane owner myself, I'd love to see some pictures of yours. Enjoy...
Looks like I'm in for a learning curve here. This 56 ford I bought I am told, and believe has the original 292 engine. However the 4 barrel manifold was swapped with a 2 barrel manifold and currently has a Autolite 2100 on it without a tag. The distributor in it has no mechanical advance but there is one in the trunk with a mechanical advance but missing the vacuum advance unit. From what I read it likely did not come with this car. I freed up the stuck valves and replaced all the pushrods so it turns over fine. I drained the tank and put new fuel in but have got it running due to the oem fuel line has been hacked up and has 6" of rotten rubber hose and the carb needs to be overhauled. (the carb base gasket was install incorrectly) The 2100 carb has a threaded fuel filter on it, the fuel pump has no filter, but there is a fuel pump in the trunk that has a gl*** bowl filter on it but not sure if it came with the car. So when I do get it fired up I'm pretty sure it's not going to be setup correctly, timing, distributor advance, carb, etc. Likely be a 4 barrel manifold and carb on my wish list. For the price of a Edelbrock and Holley I could pick up a 90's crown vic cop car to swap the drive train out, and that will require front disc brakes.
