Does your Rod or Kustom have a name?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Painterman, Mar 24, 2006.

  1. I had a 57 Pontiac my girlfriend named "Poncho"...it stuck and even after we married, she refered to the car as Poncho. She didn't know it wasn't original and thought she was very witty. I was just glad she took enough of an interest to even name it. My present wife looks at all cars as an insturment to get from A to B, period.

"The Ford" or sometimes "the F-100", usually it's just the shitbox.

my pile of parts that will someday be a Roth trike will be "Vitamin Z" since it's the last body from his "Vit E" mold.

Humbolt Cat calls his "Dicey Donna" because of all of his mis-advenetures when ever he attempts to exercise her. She see,s to leave him Hi & Dry!!!!!!!!! I guess that why he drinks so much now, Lol!!!!!

My 34 Roadster is the "Purple People Eater" because she tends to eat up my friends cuz the always have to lend hand working on her=Lol!

Kevin's got a lot of that correct, except it originated with my then-gf's mom (who lived down the street from us, and often looked up the sidewalk to see my legs sticking out from under the front of the '57) how it was dicey, and the name just stuck. I've decided recently this should be the last time I attach a "dicey"-like nickname to another of my rides, since this one has a way of living up to its name.
Just a lil' tip for the kids...
I miss ridin' around in Purple's KK, that thing was a fun hop around Redding (and that was just one afternoon)!

Everytime somebody in my family saw my '30 coupe for the first time the first thing out of their mouth was "It looks like the Waltons car." So I started to call it "Walt". It sounds funny now when I go work on it "I'm gonna go hang out with Walt". My '93 Blazer is know as "The Beast" my '67 Camaro I had in Highschool was "The Roach". My wife had a 00 Jetta we called "Fritz" her Passat has been dubbed "Schultz"

When I've worked on and driven a car long enough it develops what can pass for a personality (anthropomorphization aside), so around then I give'er a name.

Present rolling stock are listed in my signature. Minus my wife's Elantra, no name there. I don't drive it and she don't name'em, guess we got it backwards........

Cassandra; after the goddess and her curse for which I feel a kinship, and a girl back in high school.
Nightwind; the feeling riding mountain roads in the night (my favorite puttin').
El Toad; derivative of the name (road toad) some of us gave the Valiants when they first came out.
Hawthorne; after the crab in the Sherman's Lagoon comic strip, just seemed to fit.

Some past ones have been; a '54 Chev convert I just called the Rag, a '51 Chev torpedo a friend dubbed my '51 Camaro and it stuck, a '50 Chev SD I called the Box, (did I mention I built stovebolts then?) and for an off the wall item; how 'bout a 20" (not the more common full size 26") Whizzer my old man tagged the Skate (he said that's about what it looked like under me).

  13. the 58 sedan delivery is "JEZEBEL"

  14. i call my dd dodge pickup mein kabelkampf its german and means my cable clash ,because the day i bought it the seller was drving the car to my garage and after 100 meters the whole cables in the engine room started to burn and melt . Well it was my first engine harnes by deniz ,and yes it was a clash ,my cableclash :)
by the way i know it sounds similar to a bad book ,its a joke ,i am a turkish guy in switzerland ,so i dont like the small germ politic from the past :)

We've given names to all our vehicles. A lot of the old cars had name so we do the same. The 54' Ford Customline was "Wanderer", the 31' Raodster was "Hoodlum", the 50 shoebox was "Blackjack", and now the 40' Chevy PU is now "Longshot".

It seemed like every old truck I owned was blue, and were all referred to as "Old Blue", except for a brown 63 Dodge. I called her "Kate", after an old girlfiend. No matter how hard I tried , I never could really get either of them going.
A room-mate in college had an old caddy he named "Granny" because his grandmother gave it to him. I never did like the way it sounded to take ol' Granny for a ride.
The best name I ever heard of was one given to a high school friends 67 Baracuda. It was called the "Virus Mobile." I never knew why, but sounded cool.

I've always named my cars. Comes from drag racing days when i'd talk to em. Kind of a 'I take care of you, you take care of me' type deal but not on the level of Christine or anything.

Right now my '55 Buick is named Ella. Wanted a classy name and on the cross-country drive to pick her up we listened to a lot of Ella Fitzgerald. Upon picking up the car there was a liquor store in the parking lot where we made the transaction and my girlfriend went in and bought a bottle of Old Fitzgerald's bourbon to christen her. Nasty shit but it's still sittin in the glovebox.
