There was a reason. Rules stipulated a minimum windshield height. They took more out of the rear because they could.
You'll see on several of the 34's that the builders cut the shit out of the roof and extended the windshield into the roof to satisfy rules.

It’s taken 10 years to build this coupe, which works out at a chop of 1” per year. Should finally be driving this week...
