History JUST WOODIES

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Apr 23, 2021.

  1. Woodie's have been a part of hot rod and surf culture ever since the first ones rolled of the assembly line, due to their utilitarian nature of the woodie they have been used for chauffeuring guest to resorts, for ranch use, military and basic transportation.

They have a loyal following and there has been so many manufactures build them over the years.

Let's see current and past woodie's, hot rods or original, black & with or color, what you got?

I recently found a couple of assembly plant photo's. HRP

The #3 car I ever owned was a used Stationwagon,1957 Ford 2d in early1964. That started a love of wagons, too date I've owned 18 used wagons(one at a time),never owned a new car!. Most of my wagons have had cool fake wood styling<yes I liked that ,replaced it when some had gone bad as well. I didn't use them as hot rods or customs, just as every day drivers an tow cars for my race cars/trailer.
I drive a 2005 Dodge Magnum Wagon every day now, except nice weekends when driving my hot rod 28A.
All my wagons were used when I got them, but I did clean them up,polish an most had the woody styling= most of those, needed the wood decal replaced, from faded or pealing an in one,it had been painted over badly. I fixed, replaced the look of the wood. I like it,an having the wood look new, also was extra cool.

    Being I'm always low buck.
From the first fix; I found that Contact shelf paper made some wood grains vinyl, the best of them even had textured vinyl that looked really good, pick from a number of wood colors{ can be very custom}. The big trick was making very smooth clean,an adding the contach with no bubbles.

  24. That's why I can't post pics of my '40 Deluxe Woodie, yet. It's still got the remnants of billet that I'm gradually getting rid of. The car was owned by my buddy for 50 years and was his proudest possession. He left it to me in his will at his passing, so I'm gradually taking it back to they way he had it looking 30 years ago. I had no idea that he had planned to leave the car in my care. My wife and I have secretly chosen the next caretaker for when we leave this earth. That person does not have a clue of the surprise that will await him someday. Hopefully, he will be as shocked as I was to get the phone call from the attorney!
