Hello from IRAQ, Well I just learned that my 270 SRR back home went to the Machine Shop and has 2 rods sitting in the Oil Pan...Guess Grandpa had a lead foot in the time....Bummer. I want to keep my 1955 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer as original as possible so I'm asking you all if anyone has a 270 SRR they would part with prefer it be close to Texas AND rebuildable, so the brother could pick it up. The Heads to the car look great so They say I only need a block with the internal parts only. I do have a 1954 331 Hemi Chrysler Industrial but may seem to be to much work to fit her into the engine box with out alot of mods.... Any ideas would be helpful at this time as my brother is at a stand still on what to do next. Anyhow thanks and will await a response.
Good luck in the search. I keep my eyes & ears open. Be safe over there, brother, and, thanks from all of us.
I got one I'm willing to part with. But I'm in Tacoma WA. Pulled it a few years back and I have never opened it up. Paul
Heres an Idea --- If the Ranger wants your motor perhaps we could relay it to Las Vegas & he could pick it up when he comes here to get his $8 cad from me.
Are you saying that the block is junk? How about the crank? Tossed rods are easiily replaced....I've got a 392 at the shop right now that has two bent rods and a broken cylinder..I'm fixin it.
Hello from SUNNY and Hostile IRAQ, Yes the block is down, but I'm not spending alot of money on the block..It has a hole the size of a quarter just below cyl # 4 in the water jacket due I'm sure to the rod banging around inside. The car sat at my dads fathers house for 2 years in '66-'68, then dad went to the Navy and grandps wanted the car out of the yard before he left....So Dad went out and drove the piss out of her on the way to the farm to park the Dodge, well during the two years a freeze plug poped out. Well you all can guess what happened since the farm is a good 15 miles outside of Wynoka Ok. So I wasn't told this story until this past week....Anyhow crank is good I guess but damaged, two cyl will have to be sleeved and two pistons are wedged in those said cyl's and whatever else has can be wrong since it got reeally hot! So I'm thinking I'm not rich yet seeing I'm in the military. So as much as would like to get her back to original condition,(Gramps doesn't know we have the car and restoring her. It was his first new car his family ever bought during his childhood and drove it the whole 24 years he spent in the Navy until 1966, when it was givin to my Dad.) I figure I can find another 270 SRR Hemi out there somewhere.I have a 331 Chrysler Industrial I bought before leaving to come to this lovely place for vacation. But that will take a small fortune in itself to sqeeze into the Dodge's from mouth. Anyhow guys thanks for reading my jibber jabber and the help. As for the Wa. Hemi how about a Poly 270??? I fI'm coorect the block is the same as a 270 SRR Hemi just the heads are different. Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyhow I'll await a response.
The 331 will fit...the trans mounting is the same. Mounts would have to be fabbed. You can find a 270..although Super Red Ram's will be pretty tough to find. Use what you can from the old engine and fiind another to re-do. DON'T throw away anything...Ebay the used block and crank...you'll get decent $$$ even though they are damaged. The poly also has diifferent pistons....
Roger on that....The 331 would look good in the engine bay though....Lust going to have to figure out what to do soon. The 331 was a propane engine so I'll have go through the 331 and convert a few things to make her street worthy. She is by the way very clean inside. I bought an 4 bbl intake from a fellow H.A.M.B.er SATANHERSELF. Wonder about her tag but I'm sure she is cool,...He, He. Anyhow any pointers would be great. Motor mounts shouldn't be an issue just the clearance of the steering linkage might be an isuue. Here are some pics of her.
Many industrials ran on propane...most had hardened seats...you won't have to do anything out of the ordinary to run it on the street....here's my IND-56A
Nice setup you have there...I have another Dodge same body but parts car that is really clean...So thought maybe I could chop the top lower it a bit Turn it into a Rodder like this one pic I have here....So I'll work on that as I get back soon from this Hell Hole IRAQ.
