Hi guys. I have been away from hot rods for over thirty years. I want to start a new project with my son. I found a fibergl*** 34 Ford coupe from Spirit that need ***embly. I am very good with fibergl***. Also I found new 1932 Ford frame rails from Speedway. I was shocked to see guys nailing down the fibergl*** body to the frames with big *** rivets and also welding in vertical tubes to stiffen the door pillars to mount door hinges. Question: Will the profile of the 32 frame rails work with a 34 Ford coupe ? Question: How heavy is a fibergl*** door with gl*** and can't I just reinforce the vertical door pillars with wood and fibergl*** to mount door hinges ? Question: Is it normal to attach the fibergl*** body to the frame so you can't ever remove the body? Please tell me what you think. Gene
No, that would be totally abnormal. Gl*** bodies are for all intents and purposes treated the same way as steel ones and mounted the same way.
Which are also available repro ,if that is the desired route. Also, there is the wheelbase to consider. A 34 is 112 inches, a 1932 Ford 106 inches.
Welcome to the HAMB. Spirit kit cars are kinda weird; have you considered their '34 body might only fit a '34 Spirit frame? In order of ease of ***embly, I'd consider (1) a Spirit 34 frame, (2) a '34 Ford frame, then (3) anything else. Hope this helps. Be sure to post pics of your father/son project.
Want to know what’s really a “nofun*****ofatime” welding in steel hinge reinforcement after the car is finished ✅.
Why don't you give Hot Shoe Hot Rods a call and do a pair of 33/34 rails that are boxed in a fixture with all the nuts for body and fender bolts installed to insure a good start for your foundation. They build the unboxed 33/34 rails Speedway sells.
