Projects 1930 Model A Fordor

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Sawyer1930, Apr 26, 2021.

  1. It's been a long time since I posted any updates or anything for that matter. Thanks to those who messaged me before and answered my questions and gave great info and support.
    Here's where I started...
This has been a long time project so without further nonsense here's where I'm at.
I made a table to hold the frame together and give me a decent working height to save my back and knees. I cut and stepped the rear crossmember to improve the stance. I used the 504 boxing plate kit and it fit well and really reinforced the frame. There is a cut square/notch to fit 2"x3" crossmember. Of course I had 2"x4"... no matter a little trimming fixed that.

  2. Right now, I'm having some difficulty to find a set of rear drums. I cased the local yards and everything with an 8.8 is newer and has disc brakes. I'm kicking myself for tossing that mustang 8.8 with drums. Anyways the front has F1 drums (I'll update the front situation later) and I want to have drums also in the back. The axle is a 99 explorer and the backing plate bolt pattern is 2" X 3.5ish" square.
Where/what vehicle can I find a complete drum setup? The offset is 2".

NICE! Another Blindback, I call mine a Steelback. If you can find time could you open the back doors and put a 2x4 or whatever across the door jambs and measure the distance to the rear window glass? I'd like to know the difference from my 1929 back half. Bob

  4. OK sure I can measure that. Currently the body is stored at my friend's shop (no room in this 1 bay garage) but I'll try to get that this week.
