Technical ANYONE STILL USE PUSH BUTTON START?

Yup...works great.

 

No keys! I'm using a SoCal pull switch to start the motor and the switch returns to the run position and just have to push the switch knob end to turn off the motor. Knob on the right is the starter. Left knob is there to balance things out.

 

My 42 Ford PU had a “modern” ignition switch it it that kept turning as well, so I looked the pile and put a TF Chevy on/off switch in it and push button. Never. Problem after that.

 

My 64 Chevy C20 has a hidden push button installed by the previous owner. I think he was afraid someone would steal it. I really don't have that fear.

When I built my last hotrod in 2008, all the cool cars of the time had red start buttons, so my car got one.
A few years ago I bought a new Toyota and it has a start button, so if start buttons come in new Toyota SUV’s then it’s not cool anymore so I removed it from my hotrod.

It's ironic how the new cars are starting to mimic the past, starter buttons have made a comeback, what's next? Window cranks. HRP

 

Maybe they will come up with hatches and doors that have to be closed manually!

 

I will still have the dash button in my 46 Olds. I've a new ignition switch and will have it wired in as per OEM.

 

My 49 Tin Woody has push button start.

 

Starter button? Well, I know the Merc has one, hidden under the dash rail, left side if you're wondering.

The 54 Plymouth? I drove it a few miles yesterday. I was the one who did all the wiring. Starter button? I'd have to go look. (I know where it is when I sit in it awhile.)

Brings back an interesting story. At Bonneville a couple of years ago, I was wearing whites (as I was "semi-official") driving along in my 2002 Chevy pickup (3/4-ton, 6-liter, 5-speed) when a young (16-25?) man hailed me down for some info. I answered his procedure questions and he thanked me and asked "What's that big lever coming out of the floor?"

 

My 40 Ford Coupe & 34 Ford Pick-up both still have starter buttons because I like them & I
chose to keep Orignal looking steering columns. My 33 Willys Coupe (Under Construction )
will have a starter button also. My 32 5 Window sadly does not. Jerry

 

My 34 coupe has one hidden under the dash. I dont mind the foot pedal start in my A's, but the model 40 foot pedal is in a bad place I think, hard to reach. Then, I like to have the solenoid with the push button on it also, you can turn it over from under the hood...preferably in neutral !

 

After 3 of those china ignition switches that everybody sells went bad, I put a push button in mine and it's made in the USA.

 

Pushbutton start on my '51 Pontiac.

Fitted the valet option ignition switch, so most people get in, twist the key on then back to off on the fully clockwise position!

Still got it wired through the safety inhibitor switch, it'll only crank over in Neutral. It's handy to be able to spin the starter without the ignition on, good to get a bit of oil around before starting up after a few days sitting up.

I did get distracted from the routine (key in, window down, quarterlight open, key on, tap gas pedal, push starter) and cranked the thing over a couple times in the grocery store lot before I realized I didn't have the ignition on...

Push button transmissions too! My aunt used to have a convertible with that, tho I can't recall what, I was too young. I remember her bragging that up though, lol... It was a new thing back then.

The height of them. Very few low roofline cars anymore, all SUV looking type things like '30's sedans but a lot uglier.

 

Still using the push-button to start the Cadillac in my '40!

 

The SBF in my Austin-Healey 3000 is activated by the car's original push button. Its little brother, a Bugeye Sprite, on the other hand is started with "pull-to-start" cable attached to the solenoid.

 

Built an AD truck a year ago and used the factory ignition switch and used a tractor foot starter button and wired it through the neutral safety on the Lokar shifter. Works great.

My '29 Model A has the original push button floor starter still in use. If it works why fix it.

 

48 Chrysler is key and button. And 3 of my OT cars are push button

This jalopy has a 2 position keyed ignition and starter button from an f100.

 

They brought back cartridge oil filters.

Studebakers and maybe some Mopars in the 40s - 50s had the floor mounted starter button under the clutch pedal.

 

Yep have one on my T modified and have a mechanical stomp starter modified to be pushed with my hand on my single seater.
