I have had these ET's for over 35 years, time to do something with them. In the old days we would adapt Volo disc's to round back Ford spindles to install 14" front wheels. Hope things have changed a bit for the better! Who still makes kits that fit a 14" wheel? Thanks!
What are you putting them on? I got a disc brake kit from speedway for my 55 chevy and they will take a 14” wheel. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Check with speedway. Their kits come with everything you need so your not back and forth to the parts store 1200 times! Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I hate dealing with Speedway so I don't go looking for anything there. I understand the 1200 trip thing all to well though!
do not understand your Speedway comment - search for Right Stuff Disc Brake Conversion at Jeg's, and others
I believe Scarebird has some kits for disk brakes with 14" wheels, but it depends on your application. However, one thing to remember is the available tire sizes in 14" isn't what it used to be...make sure you can get the tires you want first.
I have no idea what kind of rig your working on but 70 Nova rotors and calipers will take 14" wheels. That's how those cars came from the Factory. Now try to find what it takes to mount the brake parts on your rig.
I used round back spindles, Volare rotors and big GM calipers (Speedway kit) on my '36 Ford pickup and 14" STEEL smoothie wheels fit fine. A similar kit for '49-'54 Chevy spindles did not work with a pair of 14" Sears Rader wheels I had. It depends where the drop center is in the wheel. Gary
I put Heidt's drop spindles on our 57 Chevy, they used Chevy S10 disc brakes. The ones I bought were for a 1992 model, this was in the early 2000's. The lug nuts are metric though, although it's the same bolt pattern. I have 14 inch Americans on them. Don't know if this is of any help or not, hope so.
I guess it depends on the spindle you have, what kit would fit rotors and calipers to them. There were a lot of OEM applications for 14" wheels and disc brakes.
Most standard kits are a combination of 11 inch rotors , either Granada, early 70's Gm or Dodge Aspen. Calipers are GM metric early to mid 80's montes , cutlass's ect and 90's S10. almost all aftermarket 14 inch wheels will fit. The problem comes in when factory steel wheels are used. Earlier ones have a tapered back side and will not clear the calipers. later 60's and on where designed for the disc brake option. Your wheels should have no problem. I have a ot 66 Mustang with factory disc and several 66 drum brake models. The drum brake wheels will not fit it . It wears Americans but the hard to find steel ones are on the shelf just in case I get silly and go back to stock! lol Larry
