Hot Rods Southeast Gasser, Father and Son H/Gas build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 37dodge, Dec 18, 2020.

  1. Very cool! Great father and son project!

If we ever finish the C10 project I am doing with my oldest son, pretty sure a drag car may be next for him. That is, after we finish my younger sons pickup project too.

Looking forward to following along with your build!

While the motor was in machine shop limbo, we moved on to getting some color on the body. We stripped all the emblems and trim off of it, removed the rear fenders and brought it over to our painter Jerry in Selma, NC. Went back and forth on the color a bunch and finally decided on GM's LeMans Blue. I think it suits the car just right. What do you think? Here are some before pics and pics bringing it home and getting it reassembled. thumbnail_20200126_144852.jpg thumbnail_20210220_112633.jpg thumbnail_20210223_202431.jpg thumbnail_20210315_172115.jpg

looks great, its great you and your son are building it. My father was not a car guy, so I learned from my grandfather. Pass on the knowledge

Color looks good on the car. Did you change the front wheels?

I am so glad you started a thread on the Morris. I guess I need to change my avatar now and let you finish it up with your twist on it.

Got the engine back from getting two sleeves put in and crack repair. Decided I would invest in my own pressure tester and put it to use to verify our engine was good. Well, damn! Got cracks under the valve seats in the same cylinders I had sleeves put in. This has really set us back with lost time and money. 20210326_212000.jpeg

Well, looking for another 8BA block to use for our race motor.
In the meantime, going to start the lettering on the body. What type of paint should I use to go over the 2 stage clear coat? Lloyd, any suggestions?

Charlie, the guy that letters alot of the SEGA cars uses one shot paint i think. IF you have trouble turning up a block, i can beat the bushes around here and probably find one

Thanks for the info on the paint. I did get some and laid down some letters. Also, I was able to get another block, just have to get all the machine work done, ported, and assembled.

Here are my H/gas lettering on the C pilars. They look good from 10 feet away. Haha. 20210504_201107.jpeg 20210504_201058.jpeg

It's been a while since the last post post, but things are starting to progress again. Got my new to me replacement block from H&H Flatheads in California. I needed an good block and one that wasn't going to be more trouble than it's worth. I spoke to Mike Herman out there and he ensured he can set me up with what I need. Perfect! Send it. I gave him my specs and they would get going on it. About a month or so passed and it was delivered. Brought it home and gave it a once over. Looked great! 20210518_191927.jpg 20210518_191939.jpg 20210518_193715.jpg

Been a while since last post, but have been slowly making some progress. Got the block relieved and ported. My rotating assembly was all balanced and ready to put together. 20210805_195736.jpg 20210805_195751.jpg
