So today I noticed something I had missed, I got a kink in the driver side door. So I had to do a little pie cut on the inside and fold it over a little bit. Got way better, still a little filler needed but I’m okay with that. Good enough as they say. I’ve had so much to do at my day job lately so progress is slow, roof is almost finished but it’s all the little stuff left. Progress has been slow lately, lots of work to do on other projects and at my day jobs. Managed to make a few pieces the other day tho. Hope to start patching this up these upcoming weeks so I can lift the body and work on the chassis. Today I got some sheet metal welded in and took the radiator off to check if the engine will turn and it did very easily! I’m still very busy with other work right now but I find a few hours here and there to make stuff happen in this. Skickat från min iPhone med H.A.M.B.
I haven’t been in my garage for about a month now I think, I haven’t gotten any real work done that’s for sure. Kicked off at work so I have too much to do and I have taken on a few other projects that need to take priority sadly. Today I did get some of the engine cleaned up and torn down. Its sometimes tricky to lift a body off by yourself, but it’s not impossible. [emoji1] Sorry for the lack of updates but I’ve had so much work to do I haven’t been able to do anything in my garage for weeks. I had two good days and got everything disassembled and sent to sand blasting. Hopefully I pick it up again today so I can start repairing the frame, paint and put it back together.
Clean but crusty. Planned out my sweep and kick up over the rear axle. I’m planning on using the original spring so had to make room for that and enough room to move the spring up a bit to get it sitting right. Had my local steelyard fold up some rails. Here is the old piece [emoji1] Got this welded in and started planning the sweep and boxing.
Yeah, it was pretty rough. Just in the middle tho, front and rear was really solid, along with the x-member for the most part.
Started boxing up the sweep/kick up today. Needed to get the repairs in first before I started remodeling the rear. I didn’t want to spend a full day bracing up the frame so felt easier to first repair and then modify. I don’t think my son agrees. [emoji1]
Amazing work, digging the progress you've been making, it's tough with a family and full time job, I totally understand.
Here are some pieces I got done last week. Finishwelded the frame and made it smooth. Now most of the work is done on the frame and I’ll start painting bits and pieces next week and assembling the chassis again before bringing in the body from the cold. Sorry for my lack of updates but having a one year old in the summer along with a few hole bunch of work made for little time in the garage.
Today I started working on running boards and fenders, I had to repair most of the frame so I didn’t have a lot to work with so had to work out and measure where to drill all the mounting holes. Now to repair/rebuild these consoles to go on the outside of the frame, and put them back. Also time to slather some paint on this so I can start putting some stuff back together, I don’t have a lot of space so need to got some stuff mounted before engine goes in and I can finish the frame and pedals and all that with the engine in place
Amazing work. Love the chop. Not many people seem to be able to get it right on these. Think I'd have given up when I saw that chassis!
This is not how I hoped these consoles would look.. They are so rotted out there is nothing left to repair. These are as it turned out wedge shaped, lucky I caught that before starting on them. Had a diagram of the original frame and a set of repro steps from bob drake I believe to work off of and one(!) single hole in the frame I managed to save on the passenger side to have as a guide. And now both are in place and I’m marking where to drill all the holes for the driverside step.
Put some paint on the frame today. Knowing that I will rebuild some of this car in the future I just brush painted the frame. I want to get it driving while I finish up some other projects that are on my list.

So I was sitting and thinking about what I need to fit these 55 Chevy brakes on my stock 35 spindles, got a pretty good idea for it but I when it came time to look at the rear axle this is what I found. So I have a another rear axle I can much more easily fit my 55 Chevy brakes to, I just need to convert to open driveshaft, or change my motor to a spare sbc and adapt a three speed top loader Ford I have to it.. I also have a lead on a 283 sbc with a Chevy three speed already mated to it. What are your thoughts? Need some input. I also have parts to fix this rear end and could mate some 46 ford hydraulic brakes to it..
hi.....just an old guy in oregon...73 years...started this crap at 13....kuddos to you my young friend...excellent work and i have enjoyed following your build....as a side note...should have a few old volvos around...i put 122 discs on my a spindles...very easy ....unless you wanna stay with drums...just a thought....enjoy and spend your life doing what you love with who you love....mark
Thank you very much! I used to have a 122 (or Amazon as they are called here) station wagon, it was my first car. Heard a lot of guys used to do that set up even for convertin mechanical brakes to hydraulic with slave cylinders for a Volvo 122. I really like drums, and got a too good to pass up deal on 55 Chevy brakes that I’m using for this. Had a change of heart this week and I’m going to build this with a sbc 350, T5 transmission and a 7.5 10 bolt rear axle. Gonna make me a driver so I don’t have to drive my flathead powered T roadster quite as much. Thank you for you kind words!
Alright, so it’s been a while since I posted. I lost interest for a bit because I had to change directions with the car, rear axle was shot, engine was uncertain and I had no plan for suspension since I had to rebuild everything. Now I have made some decision and I’m going modern, independent front suspension, ladderbars with stock leaf in the rear, sbc with T-5 manual. 1955 Chevy front spindles with some modified mustang 2 type components and 55 Chevy brakes all around. Should be a good driver. I don’t have a ton of pics to share cuz even tho progress has been made it doesn’t really show in photos. Here’s engine and trans mounts.
