Re. 1956 Mercury throttle / transmission linkage. I need a photo of the linkage particularly lever mounted on the firewall. Mine was removed before I got it. I have looked in Motors Manual for Ford and Merc. Need to know what I'm looking for. I have the pieces on the block and all linkage except the lever attached to firewall from pedal to engine. Yes. The link on the right goes to the carb. It also is for a manual transmission. I'm not sure if this part is different for a auto though. I know there is a bellcrank that bolts to the intake on a automatic equipped car.
Yes, its for an automatic. Have the bellcrank ***embly. Also the engine I put in is a 58 Ford 292 with the 58 bellcrank. I may just run a throttle cable and pedal but keep the bellcrank attached for the kickdown. So many small differences. Thanks for your help.
I have a 55 Fairlane with a 272 and a Fordomatic trans. There is a lever that goes to the transmission from the linkage on the intake manifold. Very little change/adjustment on the length of this linkage greatly effects the transmission shift points and firmness. I will try to attach some photos of my linkage.
Thanks. It's different from mine. Apparently Ford used many combinations of the set up. I located the correct piece for 56 Merc but had to modify it it to clear the draft tube. It's a 58 292 and the tube comes out of the rear of the valley cover, not the side of the block. It should work good. Thanks for your photos. Ned
Add a PCV system with a grommet and valve and you won’t need to worry about clearing the linkage for an automatic. I think it’s been posted on yblocksforever page. I did it with 61-64 valley cover and it’s fitting.
