I'm going to send a box out for my off topic project to get rebuilt. Does anyone have any recommendations based on experience?
Had mine done at a trans shop in town Pressed in the new bushings Replaced worm gear I dis***embled/re-***embled
I don't know what kind of "off topic" rig you have but you can get new Borgeson steering boxes with better ratios for about the same price as paying someone to rebuild an old box especially if the internals are worn out.
Okay, that's a tough one. I have a 59 F100 and have bought a crown Vic front suspension for it but haven't pulled the trigger on installing it yet. Rebuilt my steering box several years ago and it wasn't too hard to do but it still drives like a 62 year old truck. I sure would like power steering at this point, I put some non stock wheels on it at one point and I could not turn the wheel when trying to park without maximum effort. With stock wheels and narrow tires it is bad enough! Yeah, okay, I am old and have had the truck for 34 years. It was easier to steer when I was 35!
Powersteering.com in Nixa, Mo. rebuilt mine, reasonably priced and had it back to me in about 2 weeks.
I called and talked to him today. They have great prices and a lifetime warranty as long as your the owner of the vehicle. Sending mine out next week.
