Hung a starter on that old 283 and it measures a bit less than 9-1/2" off the cranks center. Guess that would be no problem in a 20" frame. One of those new fangled late model starters would even give you more room. Not the best pictures; but should give you an idea.

If you don't care for stock Chevy mounts; a Chassis Engineering 17" mount set up would drop in place pretty good.

Back in the 70's, I built this T-frame with 20" centers, and the rails were parallel. Reason being, was the torsion bars hidden inside the rails. It did have a 289 Ford engine. img20161231_15371815.jpg

    Rich,
Thank you for taking those measurements I really appreciate that! I was looking at the Trans Dapt 4100 mounts someone suggested yesterday and I’ll also check out the Chassis Engineering mounts you suggested also. It is definitely good to know that the starter should fit and if I use an electric fuel pump as suggested yesterday it sounds like it’ll work out alright.

    Marty,
That is a good looking car you have there. Do you still have it?
