History Anyone recognize this 60’s, Orange, Channeled ‘34 5 Window from New England?

I think they are French aftermarket lights

Auteroche Headlights many models of...

Actually down diagonally to the right from the Big A is a smaller group of lettering including Auteroche...



This is a pair of French approximately 7 1/2 inch headlights with a prominent A in the center of the lens in very good used condition. The portion of the lens that shows is approximately 6 1/2 inches.
1930, 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945, 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949

No update on the history, other then the lead I had in CT didn’t pan out. Not sure this car was ever seen much. Odometer says 21 miles, and the tires still had nubs on them. With the 389 it mighta scared them driving it!

I was able to get the engine to turn over, but couldn’t get it to run. After more investigating, it looks like it needs a rebuild. Pulling it out tonight, bringing it to machine shop tomorrow.

So far I’ve found it has an Edelbrock intake, Isky roller tappets, aluminum flywheel, bore .060 over, and a Hurst mount. Curious to see what the cam is!

What a bitchin' car man!

 

By the looks of the parts it had to be a pretty potent engine, especially in a light car. Those look like high compression pistons.

Story I heard is that the car was built and driven very little and then parked until recently discovered.

 

Do you happen to have anymore info? Or maybe know someone that might? Seller wasn’t helpful. That story would go along with the 21 miles on the odometer, and the nubs still on the tires

Very cool!

Start looking right there at spring in front hot rods. Super common with 40’s axles because the wishbone is further out toward the king pin. If you split it and pull them out to the frame your turning radius is compromised when the tires hit the split bone. So lots of them get bent there, seems like it would be an easy thing to spot but it’s easy to overlook when a cars all together

what town did you find it in? how long was it there?

 

I bought it out of Plantsville CT, but I don’t think the car has been there too long. Seller said he got it from his friend who had it a long time, but wasn’t the builder. Couldn’t get anymore information out of him.

 

Cool find. All the work in the motor is intriguing.

If you are looking for 14" tires, they are getting harder to find in the wide profiles. In a white letter tire, look at MasterCraft Avengers. Made by Cooper, you can get them through Pep Boys.



You can still get 235-60-14 along with 215- and 225-70-14s
These are radials.

If you are looking to duplicate the tread pattern and white letters, Coker has some options.

 

Christopher Laurin sent me this photo that he saw on Instagram. It’s so close, but there’s a bunch of difference. The engine sits too high (or the cars not channeled as much), looks like a chrome firewall without the master cylinder, and it looks like a spring over axle with slightly different rims.... The rear fenders and some other details are so close though!

Thanks for the link, I had noticed they were sort of scarce. I’ve been browsing Coker, and they’ve got some neat options. I really want to find a pair of Mickey Thompson Radars for the the rear to match the front.

The car Shaun1162 posted is the same one I was looking for in my own downloaded photo collection because I thought it might be your car (nope, for all the reasons pointed out above)...but here it is again at the NSRA Memphis nats '75, in blue, with an added fan shroud:

There is similar blue paint on the inside of the passenger door! Also, before the engine was painted the current blue it looks like it was gold and red before that!

Does that look like a Pontiac engine to anyone else? Also the exact style valve covers and hold downs.

Do you happen to have anymore info on the car??

Found some on the drivers side as well. Haven’t seen evidence of it elsewhere

The red/blue coupe has the rear fenders welded on above the bead. The orange coupe has the fenders welded on below the bead. Seems odd that someone would remove the old fenders and install them again one inch lower. Not the same car.

 

Also looks like a rectangle or square filler door on the driver quarter on the blue coupe..does yours possibly have any evidence of that? Just another detail to look for. Either way, nice find

 

The red/ blue car has Michigan plates, red version has 71-72 plates, blue version 73-75 plates.

The red/blue car is definitely not the OP's orange coupe(key differences include stock vs chromed flat firewall, rear fender shape, front spring/axle arrangement, channel depth, etc), but perhaps a brother from another mother.
I hope more info comes to light!

 

Yes, the blue/red car is not the same. The original builder is actually on the H.A.M.B. No luck with any other leads.

I got the motor pulled and off to the machine shop, hoping they can reuse most of the internals. I should know by the end of the week.



Picked up these recovered Camaro buckets for a good deal off a friend of mine. I took the tracks off to try them out, need to cut down the tracks as much as possible. I removed the gas tank and device holding it, need to figure out if i can modify and re-use them. Car wasn’t built for someone 5’11”!
