I must decide on the color for my '34 High Boy in the next day or so....my buddy/builder is needing that decision to move the project forward. I'm wanting "generally" an old school look. Will be doing steel wheels with 16" 7.5 rear and 5.5 front Excelsior or Diamond Back Auburn Deluxe "bias ply look" tires. Going with a solid (no metallic or black) paint. After looking through a Dupont custom color book, we tried these two colors for spray outs (picture). I have been liking a gray green or blue/green gray. A third alternative would be a tan/beige similar to late model Toyota Quicksand. This is a hard one....have to live with this color for the duration (which is probably for life at this point!). Thoughts?
Of the two, I'd say the darker color on the right. More masculine looking, and 34's are very masculine. I think the quicksand color would just be too bland and then you'd be tempted to paint the wheels red and that would just be wrong. If it were mine (which it's not) I believe I would consider a really dark maroon, or perhaps a really, really dark green. In any case, I agree, no metallic!! Lynn
Thanks Joe Blow....yes, I have looked over the '34 color chart many times....and the '39/'40. Cordoba Gray was my original thought, but just not sure....this original '34 in that color just looked a bit dull. Admittedly, the owner had not been able to keep it polished up and slick as it could be.
There is a new color used on the new ram pickups, its called Gator, looks like the cardoba grey, only a little darker,Im planning on putting it on my 33 sedan, not for everyone but its my choice.kinda looks like an original color,no metallic in it,a solid color. harvey
If you have to pick a color, you need to see your make and model in a color. Best bet is to run a thread reading, "lets see some 34 Ford Highboys". For example take a look at the guy who started the thread on Woody wagons, you will see Woody wagons in many different colors.
How about taking your 3 color choices along with a picture of your car over to the photoshop thread and ask the guys to apply their digital magic? My vote, not that it counts would be the darker panel on the right also.
I'm partial to the one on the right. The other day I saw a new miniature van ( cry-sler) in a darker gray very similar to that and thought to myself that it would look great on a hot rod. Mitch
I painted my 34 highboy black my choice. I think it has to be a dark color Coach Maroon would be a good choice IMO.
My personal view is they look best in black but its looks like that's not an option for you. For me most other colours border on street rod rather than hotrod although there are some really nice dark greys on the new RAV4 Toyotas that looks interesting, is that the one in the pic?
I've decided on Ford '68 -69' Indian Fire Red for my '33 Coupe. It has mild metallic but I think it will look/match the vintage theme. This is after a year or so of trying to decide a damn color for the car.
I’ll vote for the one on the left, brighter, would look good in the sun, but if it was mine it would be Washington or dearborn blue, your body work looks like it could support a dark colour. No maroon or teal for me please.
This is going to sound stupid but I’ve never had to decide on a color, the vehicle has always “told” me what color it should be. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
