So, I know about the coupe's engine and speedo cameo in California Kid ( which I guess was a TV special ) and I've seen the pics from the Emergency! episode. Are there any other shows you're aware of that it appeared in?
On the topic of Milner's coupe facts, anybody reading this thread know Jeff Hamrick @Graffiti32 on a personal level? Seems to me he's got the most movie accurate clone. Couple weeks ago I was looking at some old pics and came across an important detail that I feel has been overlooked by all the clone builders. I spent the better part of a week then researching said detail to figure out what I was looking at and also to back up this claim. I've started a conversation with Graffiti32 on here to track progress of this search, nothing. I emailed him from his blog info, nothing. I emailed Mark from the Kip Pullman blog thinking they might be buddies, nothing. Then I emailed the guy that built the "Naked Milner" annnd nothing. So are these dudes all too semi-famous to mingle with us normal Graffiti nerds anymore? Or are they that busy and I'm just too impatient? Either way, if you know Jeff, give him a shout for me and tell him to check out what I found. I think it'll really set his build apart accuracy wise. After I get a reply, then I'll spill the beans for the rest of you
The soundtrack of the 55 on Paradise Rd. has been used in a couple of shows, one being "King of the Mountain" where Dennis Hopper (Cal) is circling the Porche in the dirt right before the final race.
I gotta rewatch that. Wasn't he in some wild hacked up "Corvette Summer" looking vette ha. Too bad they didn't have some Super Stock 409 sound clips to dub over the 55 scenes for us accuracy nerds.
How authentic are they? I have been looking for an Ansen (?) horn/steering wheel cap. Does he have any? Looks like this:
It's likely an Ansen wheel. It was debated a bit, long ago, and a forum or two took off on that it was a Covico but from the little I know, I ***ume it's an Ansen. The restoration/historian folks would likely know better. I do know the cap is an Ansen or Ansen sold them (could be a few different sellers putting their name on it). I've seen an ad from way back.
I had a wheel like the one you posted but the chrome wasn’t as shiny. It wasn’t worn it just didn’t shine like the one above. I thought mine was a Covico. It had no markings
I remember that summer a bunch of us car guys were cruising Sonoma Blvdin Vallejo when we heard they were filming the movie in Petaluma. We all drove down to check it out. The city had the area closed off and they were only allowing period correct cars in to cruise. Several of us parked on a side street and walked over to the main drag. We saw several camera cars driving up and down the Ave but didn’t see any of the movie cars. Notmanyhotrods were around in those days given the cool cars at the time were Z28s, LS6 Chevelles, 440 six pac Cudas. Don’t know if any Vallejo cars got in the movie.
Andre (Pierre) to friends and Chrome Finger to his then wife Darlene, lived in the front duplex on Octavia Street in Oakland when I was a kid.The back duplex was occupied by my family. My step-dad, Allen Taylor Jr. had a 1953 Buick Special called Cubik. Both cars were in American Graffiti. .Allen died in Feb. of this year. The garages for both duplex apartments were under the building.Pierre and Allen would shake the whole neighborhood when they would start the cars while in the garages. I loved it,but the neighbors weren't so fond of it and would call the police sometimes. I remember when they were going to filming of American Graffiti. They would get up very early and head down the road to San Rafel for shootting. Both guys were filmed for extras at the drive-in but I don't remember if you can see them or not in the film. I miss those days.My biological Dad was killed while we were in Reno for a car show.It was Pierre who helped me calm down and talked to me that evening about grief and loss. I will always remember him as a friend.
Not quite "Corvette Summer" hacked up. Hopper drove a '65-67 Vette coupe, no rear gl***, fender flares and multiple gray primer sections on a faded red paint, no hood, wide aluminum slot mags on all four corners....a typical old road race type look from the 70's. "King of the Mountain" is one of my all-time favorite movies.
Renting your car to a movie is a mistake. Yeah they will fix the damage but why risk it for a couple hundred bucks. There are many movie car rental lots in CA. There is one behind Leno's shop https://www.google.com/maps/@34.2072838,-118.3611942,106m/data=!3m1!1e3?authuser=0&entry=ttu I know a guy in Orange County that has about 10,000 sqft of cars from the 20s-40s he rents. If a car will be a star there will be at least 2 of them. A hero car for all the close ups and another for anything that may cause damage to the Hero (or if the Hero won't start). Friends rented their 427 Cobras for Gumball Rally. They got $500 and a fresh paint job. That was fine but the one that was in the river bed slid into the channel and sustained frame damage - fixed yes but you can tell where it was done. One Ferrari owner fared worse when the stuntman stuck the Ferrari through the nose of the trailer when they did the "hide the Ferrari in a semi" stunt. They ended up buying that one. There is seldom a big car show in SoCal that some Hollywood hack isn't p***ing out cards with the promise to make your car a star. Don't fall for it if you like your car.
...speaking of the Two-lane blacktop car, Richard Ruth built 3 cars for that movie (I believe) , one was painted and changed for AG,...I talked with Ruth last week at Sick Week at Byron, Illinois Dragway. He built this Blacktop clone to race currently,...I got his autograph on a racing fuel can...nice guy to talk with.
I remember that; I also noticed that the chrome reverse wheels turned into a stock wheel spray painted silver…
Not into leasing any of my tin to movies , I drive it as a stand in or no go . The Bikeriders was just released filmed very close to home . I was contacted about rides : nope not interested. Getting tough to locate OEM stuff that gets busted . Great to watch completed movies . Lost in Yonkers and Bikeriders filmed within 3 blocks of each other . I was working for utility co ., when Yonkers was being filmed . People siting on and abusing nice stuff . My Buddy still owns 36 convert from Yonkers . He isn t much into details , there are still battle scars present . I think I would make a scene that would be cut and not hit the big screen for seeing this done to my stuff . But I guess the end result was profits .
as far as I know yes. Their focus was originally boats. Cars needed a wider spacing at the top to see the speedo etc.
I've been after an Ansen horn cap for 15+ years. I pretty much felt like they never truly existed. It's been my longest part search. A few days ago an opportunity popped up and one is finally on the way.
I still have my red metalflake one I bought in 1966. Bought it right at the factory (really a shop). They were just down the street from Belanger Headers another place I visited when I saved up 40-50 bucks. The original building is still there - https://www.google.com/maps/@34.091...i16384!8i8192?authuser=0&coh=205410&entry=ttu
