I know I may get some flack for this because I also turn my nose up at this type of post but I recently found this farm fresh matching set of 1932 maryland plates and was wondering what they may be worth? In Maryland you can run year of manufacture plates and I'm sure somebody with a 32 ford would be happy to have them as I'm sure it's not that common to find a matching set. They aren't in perfect shape, they have some slight surface rust but that could be filled easily and they arent perfectly flat but that could also be fixed easily enough. I would be keeping them if they were 30 or 31 but considering I'll never be able to afford a 32 anything I'm looking to send them down the road. Thank you and please take it easy on me lol.
Just as a reference, there's a single N.J. 1932 plate in the HAMB cl***ifieds in similar condition for $100. Seems like a lot to me, but '32 plates generally do bring a premium.
Not sure about NJ but Maryland requires 2 plates that's why I thought it was cool to find a matching set. I found a set of matching 33 plates on ebay but no 32. Actually surprised the 33 plates had no bids but they are pretty rough compared to mine. Thanks for the replies so far guys.
I have a matching set of never been issued, still in their govt wrapper and envelope from Alberta. I thought I might sell them if I got a very good offer. However I do have a '32 5W but the only snag is I'm in BC!
I'm not that sure about the geography of Canada but it seems like the only logical thing to do is pack up everything you can fit in your 32 and move to Alberta.
Whatever you do with them,Do not attempt to restore or paint them, the old plates are worth much more in original shape then they are in "Restored" shape. They are roughly worth 1-150 each, however with a pair the set is closer to 500 for the pair.Do not seperate them, unless you get a crazy price for them.Harvey
I've got a fair license plate collection. I also still keep an eye out for them. Haven't brought anything home lately. I do have a set of NY 1923 plates that I bought at a swap meet *coughchoke* 50 years ago *hackgag* in their original wrapper. Granddad told me I paid too much. They may prove to be the best investment I ever made one day, unless I hit Powerball . . . .
I'm close to completing my 1957 run of 48 states. From what I can tell, the 57 tags are asking more than earlier years. Another bit of info, the lower the state population, the less tags were made, thus higher price. I just did a quick search, nothing over $60 on ebay for a 32 tag of similar condition.
Thanks for all the answers guys, I wasn't expecting to get rich off of them I just picked them up because I thought they were cool. I have no problem displaying them with the rest of my junk forever or until I discover a get rich quick scheme and can afford a 32.
there was a 57 Pennsylvania plate at the same place I dug up the 32 plates but I'm sure you already have one of those.
Maryland used the 123-456 numbering format from 1919 until 1953. I know Virginia only allows a number to be used if it is "open", and I believe Maryland is the same. Numbers already used cannot be registered, and the plates only good for wall decoration. If that number is open, worth a lot more.
You need to check with the DMV and see if they can be used, here in South Carolina there are numbers & letter sequences that can not be registered, if that's the case all you have are wall hangers. I learned the hard way. HRP
