I am happy to hear that everyone is going to be okay, WHEEEW!, please everyone Check your bolts!!, back when I was driving stock cars my Mentor got me in the habit of grabbing a handful of wrenches and walking around the racecar checking nuts and bolts before every practice and main event, it's amazing how many times I have found critical parts with loose bolts, hoses, etc!, I try to do the same thing with my hotrod as often as possible, just something to think about next time that you climb in. These topics are just plain heartbreaking.

My prayers, too, are with Megan and Matt, and families. Get well sooner, kids.

And, I am really impressed with the response to this by this online community. What a bunch!

Now, I'll go try to put an old nightmare back to sleep.

    megan,
i dont know you personally but i pray God will heal you quickly and completely and get you back home soon. matt, i pray your injures also heal quickly and you have the strength and energy to keep going during this trying time. to survive something like this lets you know God has other plans for your future. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
    May God bless you,
    ray

  12. Glad to hear everyone is going to be ok. The car looks better than I imagined after reading the initial reports, a testiment to the build quality.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Don't know what to add here. Praying for a full and quick recovery for Megan. Obviously ya'll know how to build hot rods, let the doctors do what they do best.

I wish everyone well on this, but I think it's time to tear that drivetrain down and find the culprit. Obviously there is a VERY good lesson to learn from here and might save a life down the road.

As Muttley said, this has been a rough year on Hotrodding and too many have already been taken from us, no need to have anymore if we can help it. :)

***I'm still highly impressed with how well that Bucket stayed together. I wouldn't say TOTAL'd as much as I'd say it's been "put to the test".***

I thank you for the rest of us that were involved in making that car happen.
There were plenty of years experience involved in this vehicle as with all of the the ones we build together.
Youngbuck here on the Hamb was also involved along with many friends who put lots of hours and thought into it.
I must say though... The original designers.. Total Performance
Gave us the canvass. It was their thought out and well executed design that also stood the test. My hats off to them!
We will take this apart and try to find the culprit... But Megan is priority one now.
lots of possiblities... wheel bearings... brakes... differential... tranny..
I should have taken a good picture of the bent axle shaft housing at the rear end. Unbelievable....

A little background story about the guy who likely had a hand in the design of the car Megan was driving. In 1971 Mickey Lauria and two friends founded Total Performance. I met them at the Nats in Memphis that year. Mickey has always gone out of his way to be of assistance. While at the event, he wrote the check for my one, (and only) speeding ticket that my brother and I received while traveling through Tennessee. This let me pay for it without the parents knowing it had happened. While I've not been a customer, he has many times offered us good advice.
It is the best of news, that Matt and Megan are going to be OK.
Mickey's work at Total Performance reflects on the quality that this thread speaks to. I don't believe it has always been the easiest of businesses to keep going, and we are talking about 35 years here. To my eye, as a builder, his components always looked right.

Glad to hear everyone is doing ok, I live about 25 min from the hospital if there is anything I can do just let me know. As far as the hospital they are with out a doubt one of the best trauma units around, they put me back together in 1983 after a car wreck. Prayers for everyone involved.

    News..
    I just talked to Megan,
She will be in the hospital longer than expected. My wife gives me hell for sharing this because of hepa laws.. I say pewwy..
Her spleen was damaged worse than expected, But is performing well.
i guess its split in half the docs say, and they cant figure out why its working so well....???? Mega just learned this today.
She still not allowed to eat. Shes still not out of the woods everyone..
I know why the spleen is working....
Have 15,000 people pray for you and anything can happen....
She told me to tell you all thanks for all your prayers a good wishes.
    This girl amazes me...

Hey gang, I just returned home from the hospital and had a great visit with Megan and Matt. This was the first time that I had ever met either one of them and thought it may be a little (alot) awkward walking into a hospital for a meet and greet...WRONG! They are two really great people! Megan was awake and Matt was reading some of the post from the HAMB that the florist had sent earlier in the day. I printed 78 pages of well wishes from this post just before I left the house and I told her that it grew another 5 pages while I was reloading the paper! She looks really well and said that she feels pretty good except for some soreness, imagine that! She's one tough Chic! Matt had a picture on his cell phone of the car laying on top of the gaurdrail and man I never thought that I would think someone was lucky being thrown from a car! She says they keep checking her blood count to make sure that the spleen is doing its job, but they have quit checking it as often which sounds like a good sign to me. She had a few scrapes on her face and she said a few nasty cuts in other places. Overall for whats she's been through I would say she is doing amazingly well. They are hopeful that she might be released by Saturday if the spleen continues to heal. Matt seems to be holding up well too considering all the hospital time and wittnessing what he did. They said to tell everyone thanks for the wishes and prayers and hopefully it won't be too long before they are back. Megan says she doesn't think getting back into a hotrod will be any problem at all! I left my cell number with them and if there are any changes or if they may need anything at all I ask them to call me. You guys keep praying because its working! Tim
