. . . '40 Chevy hardtop kit. Aisle7, who intro'd here a week ago, has a '40 Chevy coupe that was started as a dirt-track hardtop that he will give to anyone interested in completing the project and actually racing the car. He gave the car to a fellow in Marin County with the same proviso, but the fellow can't complete the project because of health issues so is returning the car to Aisle7. A further condition is that the new owner live close enough to be able to race the car at Sacto and Petaluma. There are presently 9 or 10 hardtops either completed or under construction in the area, and when the number reaches 12 they will be able to race at Petaluma on a regular basis. Several cars have run in exhibition at Sacto and there has been interest expressed by the association in Oregon to compete in NorCal and have the NorCal cars race in events in the North West. The fenders, trim, and front clip have been removed from the car but are part of the package. The body shell has been gutted -- window regulators and inner door structures removed, glass removed. The engine and trans are gone but Aisle7 will help you make a smokin' deal for a late in-liner or SBC with trans, plus a suitable rearend. Anyone interested can PM me and I'll pass along the info to Aisle7. He's still trying to master the mysteries of posting; his intro was done with the aid of his son-in-law who lives out of the area.
OH MY GOD! I wish I was back home right now or I'd probably take it. I've always wanted a dirt cuope be cause my dad used to tell me about watchin the coupe races at the Lodi Bowl we he was a kid. -Jesse
If it's still up for grabs in April I'll take, I got a 250 inline and a three sped that would be right at home in it. I sure wish I was home RIGHT NOW so I could go hitch up the trailer. It'll make some kid happy I'm sure. -Jesse
Ooops, I re read the origonal post, I thought he wanted some "kid" to build it to get into vintage racin. -Jesse
No upward age restrictions, but the recipient must be old enough to drive it -- and crafty and resourceful enough to finish the car in a reasonable amount of time. BTW, there is technical help available if its needed.
I recon I'm old enough to drive it(20), drive it well, probably not . When does it need to be gone? I'm seriouly interested in it, me and my pops have been wanting to build a project together for quite awhile. -Jesse
Jesse -- I'll be talking to Aisle7 this evening and tell him of your interest. I'll get back to you with some more info as soon as I can. BTW, the fenders are a bit rough, but they could be bobbed like those on the Fangio coupe and would look great! Hmmmm . . . . Mike
Jesse -- Just talked to Aisle7 and he said the car is yours. He'll retrieve it from Marin and stash it until you can pick it up. Timelines for doing the project are up for discussion, but he's a reasonable guy; just doesn't want it to drag on for years. Better alert your dad, let him know he's gonna be busy when you get back to California!
COOL!!! I'll let him know about it. It shouldn't drag on fro r to long, I got abunch of buds back home that race dirt track so they'll help out a lot. Thanks again. -Jesse
With that kind of support you'll have this one on the track in no time. I'll PM you with Aisle7's e-mail addy for future reference. No need to contact him now, it's yours.
Hey Mike, is that the car that got taken out to Bob Winkelman's place at Muir Beach ? The guy that was puttin that car together was a driver for Woodland Center Auto Parts and talked to me about the project at one time. His Dad raced hardtops, midgets, etc around Northern California back in the day and he raced modern day midgets.
ric -- Not sure but that could be the guy and the situation. There have been a couple of false starts on this project, first when workspace was an issue and now with health issues. How ya doin'? How's the coupe? Haven't seen or talked to you in ages. You hafta get up here for one of our Saturday breakfasts or lunches at Tardel's. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send you my phone number. Mike
Hi Mike We are alwayslooking for more cars to run with us.Looks like a lot of the races this year are going to be on asphalt but the full schedule is not completed yet. I can send him a copy of the rules if he wants. Bruce
I would really appriciate some rules. I'm going to be askin alot of questions about vintage dirt racing. Oh and I need some good pics to . -Jesse
Hey, Bruce, good to hear from you. You've probably done more than anyone else to get this venture underway in NorCal. I'm sure Jesse would love to get plugged into the schedule as would I. I've back after that early false-start for the effort and just never got reconnected. Aisle7, aka Mike McClure is back on form once again, soon to finish his '37 Ford hardtop. I'll probably be involved as a crewman for McClure. Would love to have a roundy-round car of my own but there's already enough work involved in my Bonneville alliances to keep me overtaxed.
I'm in Fresno, close enough to get to those tracks. me an my partner could get that rig up an goin quik. Is there a rulebook that needs to be followed? I am very interested, if someone could call or give me a # 559-445-1208 days, 222-3045 nights.
I was at a old hard top racers house today a good guy to know if you plan on makin this car for real his Name is Dave Ellis he use to race all over here and the mid west hold some big time records and trophys he lives in Martinez i have his # if you want it he has a schroder steering box for sale
It's all adding up now, Mike.I didn't realize McClure and Aisle 7 were one and the same ! That appears to be the same car. I'm sorry to here that fellow is having health probs. He seemed pretty inspired to build the car because of his Dad's involvement. All is well down in this neck of the woods, the coupe is currently on jack stands getting it's annual winter work over. Would love to come up for breakfast or lunch some time. I'll pm you.
