I’m looking at a 51 that needs a new flywheel. Only problem is that it’s a 6 cylinder engine. I see new replacements for the 8s but nothing for the 6s. Are they the same or different? Thanks for the help.

They are different. Not much interchanges between the 6 and the 8, it is a Ford after all.

You may can get a 6cyl ring gear and have it pressed on the old flywheel if that's your problem.
If it's grinding it may be a bendix problem rather than the flywheel. If it's the clutch surface it may can be surfaced/machined.

Likely your best option is to buy a complete, maybe even running flat 6 and use it for parts. These engines are not hard to find in good running condition. Many really good engines are pulled for V8s. In a way that's a shame because the HA was really a good engine.

Greetings F-ONE!!... my uncle worked in the shop at West Penn power in the 50s....said they swapped straight sixes in after taking V8s out ....drivers liked the addition torque the 6 had...
