46-48 Ford sheetmetal on a Mercury

    Will the front sheetmetal off of a 46-48 Ford fit directly onto a 46-48 Mercury? My guess is yes, but just wanted to make sure.

    NO, the wheelbase of the merc is longer, and it's all in the nose.

    What if I switched the body over to a ford ch***is. Will the body bolt up to a ford ch***is and then would the front sheetmetal bolt up?

    yes.. that will work.. ford ch***is, merc body, and ford front clip.. your home free..

    the only difference is in the nose.

    and trim..

    There's another way, too...Merc and Ford used SAME frame, and most have all the holes for both uses. For Merc, they just installed the front X member in a forward set of holes, and added some sort of mount for the radius rod mount to the Ford center member. Engine stayed in same place, with extensions attached to front crossmember to provide engine mount pads.
    So...you already have a Ford frame. You just need to do a little digging to find it in the Merc...
