I just checked into a hotel in Lincoln Nebraska, ran into a dude in the parking lot and he was showing me pics of his old Fuel Altered. He asked where I was headed and when I told him B'ville he looked at me and said "It's under water" He said that there was water enough to be able to see little waves. That was Sunday and according to him it was raining pretty hard when he was there. TELL ME IT'S NOT TRUE PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BB
Bob, I don't see anything out on landracing.com, and I am sure they would post something there. The forecast looks good also, so see you there! Doug
I went to the Weather Channel and punched in Wendover Utah ... no rain ... but isolated scattered showers ( 30 % ) on Saturday and Tuesday ... on the 10 day forecast ...
Bob, I took this quote directly off the SCTA website; Salt update from Mike Waters and Roy Creel 8-05-06 "The Salt is Hard, Dry and Smooth."
Oh yeah, and whoever that cat was, I think he was lyin' to ya, I checked the weather from Sunday Aug 6, 2006 91* that day! with ZERO rain
i can personally vouch that it's hot and fucking DRY here in the SLC. there has been some rain a few times in the last few weeks, but with all the hi double, low triple digit days we've had the last month...it'll be like salty cement out there. i'm gonna try and make it out there on tuesday though...i hope it doesn't rain that day! that would be just my luck, the only day i can make it out there it fucking rains
Dammit the beginning of this thread got my attention Just have to load the model A onto the trailer, along with all the gear tomorrow night. We leave early thursday morning for Bonneville.
Have Fun, Bob.....We'll keep the beer cold for you 'till you get back....Tell all the HAMB'ers to have fun...go fast and straight...
Hello from IRAQ, Here is a SAT-PHOTO for you guys worried about the weather in Wendover, Utah...10% rain...Will be nice and here is a prove in the picture. Enjoy your selfs and send me pictures. Well anyone tell me how to post a large picture you so you can have good weather pic from the US Goverments Weather outpost?.
Bob, Here's what I heard at club meeting tonite. Both ends of the track are mushy with some standing water in between. There has been some fairly strong storms go through. This came from a 200 M.P.H. Club member who is very reliable. Jim Burkdahl (Utah Salt Flats Racing Association) is going to Wendover tomorrow and will call with track conditions when he gets there. I will post what I find out tomorrow. Hopefully we will get some winds to dry things out. We are going out Friday regardless! Mick
someone get the mops and sponges out, you can have it all cleaned up in no time...I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you guys, I got a good feeling things are gonna go off without a hitch...
Damn I hate it when I'm right, fortunatley it don't happen that often. I'm leaving Lincoln heading west anyway, it'll dry out. BB
Well here is our chop job from SATURDAY, no one hurt this time but sure isn't like being back home in Texas working metal. This takes on another meaning.....Ears still hurt.
"Both ends of the track are mushy with some standing water in between. There has been some fairly strong storms go through." fuck, I was affraid of that we have had more rain then I wanted this close to Speedweek. fingers are crossed & heading out Friday no matter what.
what's that got to do with Speedweek in Bonneville?...must be posted in the wrong thread by accident...hahaha...
damn. Its a long ride from Indiana... Someone needs to get out there with a squeegie and a blow dryer!
Crossed fingers here too. We're under way, the truck left this morning and I'll be following in a few hours. Heres hoping for heat and drying winds (Winds can abate Saturday at noon) Mike
Well there is a lake right by salt lake city. You didn't buy the Altered did ya? Ya wanna buy a bridge? Bob have a smokin' time bro, I just got an email saying that the salt is better than its been in years. bring picture back for a salt sick old racer stuck on KC.
Not as far as NY, CT and Maine! Hope my friends aren't heading that way fer nuthin'! They were in Laramie this morning. Small world story - Steve heading there from CT by way of Louisville just happened to run into the Barons Racing Team from Maine in Laramie and had diner together!
thats my small world story too... I hung out with the guys in 2003... partied at the bend in the road... felt sorry when they punched a hole in the oil pan with engine stuff. We left and drove straight throught to indiana. The following morning as I'm driving to work... who do I pass as I exit the expressway... the Baron's race team... I'm glad they are going this year!
Hey Bob and you guys that are heading to B'ville - I've massaged the magic ball, rubbed the rabbit's foot, checked the Tarot cards, mumbled some ancient mojo words and plunked the magic twanger - and they all tell me that the salt is going to be the best it has been in years. Have a great time. Wish I could be there. John
I just talked to Jim Burkdoll, who is on the salt now, and he said they are starting to drag the course, the water is gone and it is looking great! Mick
these pictures are from the SCTA site and dated today. Looks dry to me. http://www.scta-bni.org/Bonneville/Speedweek 06/photos_wed.htm
I told you bob...they don't call me Jinx for nothing...I know my gut feelings pretty damned well, and I can feel some good records being set this year...and one really longstanding one being broken...I just know it...have a blast guys, I don't think you'll have another chance like this for a while...
