I last visited the Gilmore in 2019, was surprised at how much it had grown, great museum. I had always wanted to go to the Edsel Ford estate, have to visit it sometime when I’m back in town.

Most people look at me like I'm crazy for wanting to vacation in Detroit, but you've nailed exactly why I want to go. Along with a trip to Fairlane, Greenfield Village, and Motown's HQ of course.
Lots of eye candy in those places. What's the story on these wheels with what looks to be wood tires?
We did the Gilmore in 2014 with the Dodge Brothers Club, along with pretty much everything Ford/DB in Detroit. Gilmore is a great museum. Dave
Congratulations on your visit to the Gilmore. The neat thing is, every time you go it's different I have been there four times and it never disappoints. For those of you planning a trip to the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village. Allow a lot of extra time here. You cannot do the Henry Ford in a day. Two minimum three is better. There are many other auto related venues in the area. The Packard Proving Grounds were still partially there and open. A small but interesting museum is the Stahl, small but free. Google up auto museums in the Detroit area and you will be pleasantly surprised. I have not heard if Ford is doing anything for the 90th anniversary of the Deuce. I attended the 75th and will make sure I attend the 100th if I'm hopefully still around. Good job Joey!
While in Detroit area there is also the Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage & National Hudson Motor Car Company Museum in Ypsilanti which is worthwhile to check out. It’s fairly small, but still cool.
Stahl's, and the orphan museum in Yipsi are great as well, then the R.E.Olds museum in lansing, and the....

Southern Michigan is ripe for a car guy. I have lived here for 30 years and still find neat things. Next trip plan a longer stay and add to your destinations: Stahl's Piquette Plant Ford's first factory Sloan Museum Flint Detroit Public Library Automobile collection Detroit Institute of Arts Rivera Murals as well as Edsel's Art Collection: When traveling between the Gilmore and Detroit pop down to Auburn and see the ACD Museum and Ford v8 sites Ypsilanti has the last Hudson Dealership as well as the fireman's museum Packard Proving Grounds in Shelby Twp Oldsmobile Museum in Lansing That is just to name a few outside of the August Dream Cruise and September Old Car Festival Enjoy Jon Crane
Born in Detroit and lived on the far west side a few miles from Greenfield Village & Fairlane. Worked 15yrs. about a mile from the original Motown headquarters and a bit further to the old auto plants down W. Grand Blvd. Never thought too much about it, it was just "home".
That is cool, although outdated as 8 buildings were moved in 2003 during the renovation of the village which I was involved in.
I live about 6 miles from the Gilmore and go multiple times a year. There is one weekend in the spring when the hoods are up on the cars and you can see the engines. Cruise night is every Wednesday, come over and park in the grass! Also close by in Indiana is the Auburn museum...
Gilmore Museum is definitely a great place to visit. The Relix Riot is a great traditional hot rod show there that is another reason to go. August 21 this year I believe. I don't remember the full story, but the wood wheels picture were something tried during war time rationing. Didn't work too well as I remember.
