Just what the title says. Anyone do their car or have it done? I have a buddy that just paid someone to do his vette and his donzi. I haven't seen the vette, but I saw his donzi before and after, and it looks amazing, and water beads and rolls beautifully. Supposedly he won't have to touch the gel for 5-6 years. That's a lot of aching back saved from rubbing out and waxing. If you did it yourself I'm particularly interested to hear how it went, what you used, what you think about it finished.
I'll say this, it took all the scratches and oxidation out of my buddy's boat, but I understand the prep is pretty intensive. He paid $1900! I'm set at that price, I'll stick to wax. I know another guy that did it himself but it's only good for a year, and to me that's one season, and I only rub and wax the boat once a season anyway. And the car gets big fat dead bugs on the front, I don't see ceramic helping that....
I had my wife's BLACK (ot) truck cut and buffed and had the ceramic applied two years ago. Still looks like glass and after a rain it does not spot. The detailer that did it said it would last about two and a half years. I paid $300.00.
I might be mistaken (it's happened one or two times in my life) but I think there are two types of ceramic: the stuff you get at auto parts stores as a DIY application, and the type they do in specialty detailing shops, which I think is a totally different product and process. Can anyone shed light on this or correct me if I'm wrong (which isn't likely, because I rarely am, you know). Thanks!
Yes, I have done my OT car . It has only been a few months , but the water marking has stopped , so that's good . I just used the stuff on introductory special at Repco, spray on wash off . leave it alone ..... my kind of low effort product . The shine is slightly improved . Durability yet to be determined .
......I started a thread on the main page a couple of months ago about this. I don't know how to post a link, but I did just bump it back up.
I'm probably crazy but I enjoy the relaxation of waxing. I'm not one of those OCD guys that has to have every speck of dust off his ride like some I know but if I go to the effort of putting a nice paint job on a car, I don't mind cleaning it up. You just get in the shade, turn on whatever music you like, make sure the cooler or fridge is stocked and go at it. It's even better if there's a couple of other guys and their rides there. Share the work, B S about stuff whether it's related to cars or not. Used to do it all the time with the bunch of guys out of East L.A. I rode motorcycle with. Every Saturday morning, we'd gather at a motorcycle shop where one of the guys worked, everybody bought a bottle of GUNK, brushed off all the accumulated road grime, rinsed the bikes off and waxed. All the while, we were talking about work, the old ladies, making changes to our bikes, where we going to make the next run to, just stuff. It was a good time and I miss it.
