With Speed Week right around the corner, I thought the timing was right to start a digital collection of sorts. The early years at Bonneville were inspiration for a ton of illustrators that strutted their stuff in the pages of Hot Rod, Hop Up, and other magazines. I love this stuff and want to see more. What do you have on your hard drive?
Dick Teague, Veda Orr 1947 Hot Rod Pictorial, it doesn't get better than that. Couple odd facts about Teague - he was a child actor in Hollywood in the 20's, blind in one eye, but despite the visual handicap went on to become a designer at GM, Packard (he designed pretty much the entire 1953-4 Packard fleet), Chrysler, and finally AMC - he was the guy who penned the Javelin, Marlin, Pacer and Gremlin.
One of the best collections of vintage B-ville and Lakes photos you'll ever see... http://www.est1946.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=315 Don Cox was a Navy photographer in WWII who chronicled the SoCal lakes scene. He used high quality cameras and KodaChrome film, and the result is jaw dropping. The photos look like they were taken yesterday, incredible detail.
Those cars on that shelf are not his unless he's Don Ferguson. The SoCal bellytank came down off that same shelf to the left of those two on Mar. 19 1994. The Tom Fritz painting above is of the SoCal tank after Alex sold it and it was painted orange, the one behind it is the Burke & Francisco tank. Pic contributions deleted by poster.
Beautiful stuff!!! Keep'em coming! If any of you have any hi-res images I'd love a copy, especially the Teague drawings, please PM me and I'll send my email addy. Thanks!!

Man, was that a wild time at B'ville or what? I have the Motorbooks Classics collection on land speed records (period articles). The early 60s were awesome up there...
Hey SteelCoupes! Mind if I "steel" that belly tank cutaway? I've been looking for something like that...
HOLY SMOKES! i was on my way to work this morning and saw #86 on a flat bed being towed by an RV on its way to bonneville. looked like they were just leaving home and on their way to race!!! it sure was a beautiful site! i was stopped at a red light and not really paying attention, then the light turned green and as i stabbed the gas pedal, in the opposite direction going through the intersection i cought a glimpse of some gold leafing and an AMAZING blue color on a car. i was in awe as it pulled ahead of the truck driving next to it and it unvailed the whole body!!! i should have been paying attention to where i was going but that body had me drooling and as it left in the opposite direction i wished them luck and it got me thinking, Next year i MUST make it to bonneville!!!!! nice way to start my morning! i love living in Southern California!!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=212247&d=1155149603
