Wartime production, Cadillac Flathead parts

Found these valve lifter components recently, they used Cadillac V8s in some of our tanks.
They are wartime dated so are presumably mil-sup?
They are paper wrapped & heavily waxed & I bet would survive for some time in salt water if necessary! Pretty cool.

 

some of the surplus parts took a while to clean off the preservative. Now you need to find the Caddy engine,....

 

Cosmoline. The .mil had specifications for everything, and preserving parts and proper storage is a big deal. Amazing stuff they have stored at those depots.

 

The stuff was in fact wrapped up to be salvageable if a ship sunk while transporting parts.

 

when I rebuilt my Cadillac flathead, each main and rod bearing came packaged like that, took forever to open and clean each one.

 

That’s good protectant , what a ***** to clean without soaking

 

Most of the bronze clutch disks for hydros are Mil. surplus from the Cad powered tanks.
