Projects 1937 Ford Interior Fun...

Trying to figure out how the front header panel in the front of the roof works...
When I got the car, it was a collection of parts a gentleman had been putting together for a while. So, I've never seen it all together..
Surprisingly, I can't seem to find many pictures of how it should look finished, or more importantly, how it looks when the panel is removed...

 

There is a hook in the center at the top of the body that I assume hooks to the foward headliner bow?
Also, does the headliner continue across the open space to the windshield, or somehow stop at the headliner bow to allow access to the wiper parts?

 

There are also holes along the top of the header panel for screws, but no corresponding holes in the body header frame that match...
Does my panel look like a '37?

Yep, that is a 37 header panel. There is a tack strip that is missing (see pic) that goes across the top, right below where the roof meets the inside structure panel, that is what the holes are for. The headliner gets tacked there and the first bow is right over the seat, there are recesses with screw holes in the center above the door and on toward the back - a tudor has 5 or 6 bows, can't remember exactly.

The screws in the top of the header panel go thru the tack strip the header panel then gets covered with headliner material and is installed to cover the tack strip, wiper motors, etc. The center hole was/is for a speaker. The bottom holes go right at the windshield and the windshield garnish finishes it off.

 

Your inner structure panel doesn't seem to have the large hook or tang mine does in the center near the top... (At least that I can see...) Maybe that's what holds the middle of the tack strip....
For some reason your inner structure looks slightly different than mine...

 

I really appreciate you showing me a picture of your panel... That makes the most sense of anything I've seen. (Plus it will make it easier than what I was thinking!)

I think you are probably right, I think that tab probably holds the center of the tack strip. I cant tell if mine has that tab or not, I don't think it does. Yep the inner structures do look a little different. Mine has a flange at the top and the original roof insulation goes between the structure and the roof. You can see the insulation thru the oval shaped hole. I had to scrape the rest of the insulation off, due to an unfortunate interior fire....... it was some good stuff tho, saved the roof.
