Mine has spring tangs where the TO bearing slides in. I couldn't get them inside the slot where it seems they should go, so I put them behind the back flange and put in the trans, thinking they would pop themselves over the flange when I pushed in the clutch. Doesn't seem to be happening. They do go in the slot, right?

Long time since I've done a Chevy clutch, don't remember having those tangs.

Right, they are there to keep the bearing from rattling.

Thanks again, I've now gone from incorrect to correct. Wasn't too bad, I had only put the front 4 ****** bolts in. But I think I'll skip the gym tonight..

Do you have an OEM fork or a reproduction? The last car I did I had a repro fork that just didn't fit right with the TO bearing. It was a tad tight and ended up breaking the back flange/lip off the bearing. I threw the arm (and broken bearing) away and got an OEM one that fit like a glove.
