  8. I should mention, gentlemen, that Mr. Moyers panel painted coupe was featured in Traditional Rod and Kulture magazine 3 years ago. Well written article by the way.

    Hello,

What a better place to see a custom wild paint job on a form of surf transportation than Newport Beach/Corona Del Mar city limits area. As we, my wife and I, were driving by a couple of days ago, to go to an outdoor nursery for some rare, low maintenance plants, she spotted a “bright old car” on the side of the road. “Look, a cool orange hot rod…” once the traffic cleared, I could see the bright orange paint clearly. In a field of vison in any community, it would stand out.

The colorful, wild painted 1951 GMC Panel Van was sitting on a side street, parallel to the main cruising road. So, of course, we had to stop for some investigation. It was a great visible location for any situation. This time, it was for sale and the location must have drawn in plenty of looks and people stopping by for photos. (like us)

Wouldn’t you know it, some history was recorded just up the block towards the ocean. That busy intersection was the home of the famous Merle’s Drive-In Restaurant created in 1951. The yellow rectangle shows the latest dine-in restaurant on the exact property location as the old drive-in restaurant.
