Kingston, Ontario Speedway comes to mind.....dirt track.... Lots of north country legends ran there. Watertown, New York, also......A 1/2 mile fairgrounds dirt track that enjoyed a good long run. Good reading is "The legends of Watertown Speedway". No trace of the fairgrounds track exists today. Time marches on, not always for the best, I think.

  6. Not officially lost yet, but the last race at Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood NY is this Saturday ending a 72 year history.

Built by Irving and Anna Heath, 1951 and it's been in operation ever since. Irving Heath p***ed in 1965, Anna owned and operated the track until 2005, when when their grandson Andrew Harpell took over.

Age old story the track was in the country the city grew up around it and people complained about the noise and dust, it got to the point it was written in to an agreement with the city only a direct descendant of Irving Heath could operate the track.

Andrew Harpell wants to retire and there are no direct descendants of Irving Heath who want to take over so Saturday is the end.
