Hello,

My wife and I like getting out when we can, although we are in the most susceptible category for the pandemic. But, going for short drives to the ocean always makes life seem a little less awful. The calm, blue ocean and wave action tells us that life and society will move on despite some setbacks we have not experienced before.

One day, we saw a cool Chevy truck parked by the side of the road. It had a nice stance and looked to be recently returned from a stint at the local tire shop. The So Cal Tire Shops are plentiful, but Tucker Tire in Laguna Niguel and Fonseca's Tire Shop/Auto Repair in San Clemente, have been around for many, many years of quality service. Experienced from each other...two of the best shops...IOHO

So, either the current owner is a transplant from Bend, OR, now living in So Cal. Or, he bought the cool truck from someone in Bend, OR. Any PNW or Oregon folks know anything about the history of the truck or perhaps the business of the former owner? Something about “Sea Stacks?”

Waiting on the guy who will be lettering the body on my current '39 Chev project.

 

Got this on a trip to the junkyard this week. If you check out the lower door you can see emergency vehicle. I’m sure under the top logo was a big 500.

 

Here's a couple of mine. So many ways to age stuff. I use Bon Ami powder on thinned 1 Shot.

Beautifully imperfect lettering! "GEAR JAMMERS" really pops off the door nicely.

My first attempt at lettering on my '39 Chevy. Far from perfect, but neither is the car.

 

A little lower than the door.....a nod to my uncle's old speed shop.

 

this is my truck and the logo is military, just where i served while in, I get a lot of comments on it, a good conversation starter. Mike

 

"We Build, We Fight"

 

Most hot rodders today are used to professional, computer aided, gold leaf lettering to make a ride
look "authentic". Back in 1967 when I had no extra money to spare and wanted to be "cool on the street",
I used white contact paper, cut out my design on the living room floor using scissors, and put it on my car.
I suppose a lot of things have changed for the better.....

Heres my two 1935 Ford sedan front doors. Actually French MATFORD V8 which is why they are suicide doors . Found the car about 40 years ago , should have bought it then . 20 years ago came across the remains and bought the doors and cab. So 20 odd years in storage . Pic taken yesterday

Cleaned it up some and filled in the blanks going to make a wall hanger for the shop.

I’ve lived in Oregon for over 30 years and never heard of a sea stack. I guess I need to get out more.

My wife and I have driven up and down the coast of Oregon several times and taken inland routes in Eastern Oregon the other times. We have always enjoyed coastal driving and sights. The spots along the Oregon coasts are one of a kind and we appreciate its beauty each time as they are some of the best driving coastal road trip areas. Those listed “Sea Stacks” are what makes the Oregon coast cool and definitely different. It is different than the So Cal coastline, but the ocean is what draws us to specific spots. There is something about being close to the ocean or what the ocean provides all of us in return.

The Oregon coast and cities were the first place that we saw those crazy signs posted along the highway that say tsunami hazard zone. The roads were right at sea level and running along the flat beach towns. But the sea stack areas still had the signs, only near the lower level flat land beach zones. Growing up in So Cal beaches, we never saw anything resembling a tsunami warning or something headed our way.

But, to drive miles and miles along the Oregon coast and seeing those signs gave us a weird feeling. The closest thing to a Tsunami was the Dana Point Harbor waters in So Cal swirling in and out. It also swirled inside of the harbor with the water level rising. But there were no signs like the Oregon coastline. Then a year or two later, we noticed the similar signs posted all long the sea level streets of the Dana Point Harbor. There is higher ground just beyond the sea level harbor, so we all knew where those signs point and direct anyone.

Luckily, we live high up in the coastal hills and if by chance a “BIG ONE” comes, it won’t get to us. Those Oregon sea stacks serve as a wall or something big to break up any mass of water. But, again, that part of the Oregon west coast is in the Pacific Current Zone that is a doorway to those big storm surges.

A friend took one of those Tsunami Hazard Zone signs and made a big wave rider with the guy climbing up a slope. At the time I thought nothing of it, but a few chuckles.

We also like the area where you live as it was a wonderful drive with plenty of stops Eastward from the Portland area. That road trip(s) made us feel wonderful with all of the great scenery and surprises along the river. But, those coastal zones create some powerful "rusty" situations, so perhaps that old truck was a recipient of such blasting of salt air.
