Hi All, My 50 is running driving on the road. Inside the car is hot as heck. No headliner and metal floors at this time which would probably account for a good portion of the heat. Vents are open..With the chop air seems to flow around it. How much can this be resolved, flathead 6 so AC is probably not an option.. Thanks, Steve
Just insulating your firewall and floor will make a huge difference. This could help. https://www.quietride.com/web/viewe...e.com/catalogpdfs/ford_cars_49_79_catalog.pdf
I plan on using the highly reflective metallic stuff like OEMs use on the outside of the firewall and under the floor by the trans and exhaust.
Go to Home Depot or Lowe's and get some of the reflective bubble wrap looking insulation stuff and do the inside of your roof, it will make a huge difference. Get it up tight against the metal and use foil tape to secure it. I did this in an OT van and it made a world of difference. The stick on dynamat stuff (or similar product) works well on the floors and firewall.
And the roof. Lots of insulation everywhere, including the roof. Also consider heat shield between your exhaust and floor pan.
...and between the trunk and p***enger compartment. I was surprised how much heat was coming in from the trunk in my '53. In short, you cannot have too much insulation.
The fresh air vent could be bringing in hot air if there is a bad donut gasket between the blower motor and the the ductwork.
Seal up the firewall, shifter, brake pedal, etc. Hot air literally gets ****ed into the cab if there are open holes. Do this before you insulate but DO insulate.
Insulation and carpet the whole firewall and floor on the inside top to bottom, front to back. It will stop 90% of it.
