I had a pair of MG Midget bucket seats I had planned to use but I could not move them back far enough or low enough for leg and head room. After searching for an alternative, I found a pair of 1966 Austin-Healey buckets and using 1975 Corvette seat tracks I was able to gain almost 2 inches in each direction. 20160511_200245.jpg 20170317_173354.jpg

Slick project, thanks for sharing. Neat to see a GM get hot rodded on here.

I bought a Flaming River tilt column for the car and after looking at what column drops were available, I decided to build my own, again with some help from my brother. 20180116_193115.jpg 20180123_194657.jpg 20180126_204332.jpg 20180213_200705.jpg

The radiator and AC condenser were made by Custom Auto Radiator in New Jersey to fit the Pontiac grille shell. We made aluminum baffles to fill the spaces above and below the radiator to hopefully force the air to go through the radiator not around it. They got painted black later. 20151103_205521.jpg

We made a new front floor of metal instead of wood as was original and were able to push the toeboard forward about 1/2” and dropped the floor 1 1/2” to gain a little more precious legroom.
Once the floor was installed my brother used a chrome exhaust tip to fashion a lower steering column mount (which also conveniently hides the column manufacturer’s name).
Mounting the ECI power brake components was next. Not liking the look of the combination of the 9”
booster and master cylinder hanging on the firewall, I fabricated a bracket to sandwich the firewall between the booster and the MC and hiding the booster behind the dash. The brake pedal is from a 1955 Cadillac.
The MC was not level with the air cleaners so we created a little inset in the firewall to tip the MC up slightly to correct the situation. After designing the shifter and parking brake consoles out of cardboard, we built them using rods and sheet metal. 46101FDD-9963-4894-85F9-AC249CC6112F.jpeg 699EB17B-A03A-451F-9239-5A981F510D91.jpeg A0BEA064-03AE-41F9-90B0-3E0127E8EC9F.jpeg 183FC215-9F43-4221-B293-563E0FE242BC.jpeg D1AA46A5-355D-4447-ACFC-4FC7993FB8A9.jpeg 501EFE2D-120D-4D98-BFB4-AD73F7ABE4D2.jpeg 02489BAD-EE6D-4E7A-8C8A-F38082051EDE.jpeg FDE89D0F-62E4-44EE-86DB-FDEBDCA44F2C.jpeg

The dashboard wasn’t big enough to accommodate all of the gauges and switches so I made 2 underdash “accessory “ panels and then added 1955 DeSoto gauges and a 1961 Pontiac ignition switch. 1EF440D3-BDF4-406C-B386-D4508C790B98.jpeg DF5CE001-9965-4E10-8039-DD80845BFF1C.jpeg B26F0709-4440-4D4A-AA38-8E4D6AE63436.jpeg 9C612890-AF0E-438B-AD46-FF4FA837B66E.jpeg CBDF360B-0776-4FA5-89C5-61A83EF79399.jpeg F8C4DF15-ABE3-468F-BE9A-C732DB11B6B7.jpeg

    31 B'ville,

I just found your thread and want to compliment you on your build. What a great looking car with an amazing amount of detail. I really appreciate your metal work - the column drop , consoles, and the dash are works of art. I cannot wait to see the finished product.

I used a Derale 17” clutch fan and made the shroud in 3 pieces to make it easy to remove for service.

Great idea on making the shroud 3 piece! Too bad the commercial shrouds don't do the same!
