I got screwed - my 1950 3600 only has a 3 speed on the column to pass all that torque to the rear end.

  5. I also have a chevy truck chassis that has I think the early 194 six. It has a updraft carb. A dist cap about the diameter of a silver dollar. The old mill actually runs very well.

Had at least a half dozen of them thru the years. Only had one fail on me.

I know I'm kinda late to the discussion, but I just found this thread.
In 1977 I bought my 1952 Chevy Sport Coupe with the original 216 engine & 81,000 miles.
Had tons of fun putting 44,000 more miles on it since then.
I still own the car and recently (June 2021) had the 216 completely and professionally rebuilt at 124,000 miles.
Am still in the engine break-in phase. Looking forward to putting more miles on it

I found a replacement 216 for my wife's Grandfather's car after one of her cousins or her brother who was going to "re-store" the car lost the hunk of iron. They also took out the clock with a hammer! Anyway, th engine I found was out of a truck but th eoriginal owner pulled the engine and replaced it with the new pressure oiling system that came out the following year. So the engine has very low mileage and I intend "someday" to install in the old '46 Fleetmaster...

And Chevies should nottake all th innovation credit..both my '32 5 W and my '42 Fargo have the transmission directly behind the engine! LOL

My grandfather had a 40 Chevy sedan he drove all over North America in the 40s and 50s. I guess that car had this 216 in it? He passed in about 57 and my family used the car for a school-bus-waiting shack.
