We all know that 32 fords are one of the top dogs in the hot rod world, but most of them are done in the same fashion as one another. Aside from the little deuce Coupé of The Beach Boys fame, has anyone really done an outrageous 32 ford in a period correct way? Or was there any 32s done back in the day that were really wild and out of the norm? I am especially interested in 3 windows that were edgy for their time. I have a pile of 32 pieces and I am wondering what to do with them.
Not a deuce but some inspiration may be found in the Super Bell coupe, albeit a few years out of HAMB sensibilities.
Well, if Jim has a 'pile of pieces', it sounds like we may be in for another amazing display of something out of almost nothing. Now as far as inspiration from 'traditional 32' sources, that may be in short supply. The Silver Sapphire was an outlier, but not because of it's wild custom touches.... it was because it's a '32 Ford. They just weren't as commonly used in those days. Open almost any magazine of the era and they would be out-numbered by Ts and As. A '32 only won the AMBR once in the HAMB era (and wouldn't win it again until the '70s). I'm not slamming '32s, just pointing out history. So I'd cast a more general search, you'll find plenty of examples, but they'll usually be Model As. How about a sectioned, channeled and chopped coupe, widened a touch and stretched for passenger comfort/packaging? The world doesn't need another (yawn) highboy.... Go for the Gusto!!!

This started out as a -34 fiberglass,,and he made some changes. I know it is not the 32 that you asked for,but it can give you some inspiration.

Ugg! I’m a 32 purist. Use your pile of parts and build a 32 that looks like a 32. Sorry this didn’t help you it’s just my 2 cents.
My ‘32 that I posted above was built by some free thinker in the 50’s or early 60’s. With it’s engine setback and tunneled boxed firewall, I can’t help but think for a certain drag class. It first came to our small town about 1967 from the Boyertown Pa. area. She still wears the same orange paint as when I first saw her tearing down Main Street in 1968. The front fenders are cutdown Hudson Terraplane, which I removed in the mid 70’s after much harassment over how ugly they looked. I have never extolled, that it’s a beauty… but she is what she is! I gave up hunting her history, a few decades ago… and I would challenge anyone to find even one person who knew this car or has a picture of her.
My 32 three window was a drag car in 56,57. Chopped, channeled and layed back front axel.The seat is from a WWII Bamboo Bomber.As I remember the 32’s from where I was they were as a traditional as we build them today: East St Louis, I’ll.
My parts are all 3 window. I have enough to make a fairly nice car, which I have already started on , and enough junk left over to make something a little more wild. 32s are a lot like tri-5 chevies , in that they look so good , with so few of alterations. There are a lot of cool cars on here, and most of them are done with a chop and channel, so maybe that is all I need to do. I almost forgot about Jerry chins car, it’s pretty wild , very traditional and I had my hand in its build.
IMO, what really makes them look "wild" is when they get channeled deeply, especially when they retain their fenders. Moriarity put up a pic of Lil Coffin, but the version before it is more recognizable as a Deuce. The Jim Khougaz roadster has a full length belly pan.
Or you could go with a wild drag setup. maybe a little engine setback Maybe push the body back a bit too Or maybe just go all-out Competition Coupe, where the same car ran as a dragster by removing the body. The '32 guys would never let you live that down.
