Was wondering what I could do for motor mounts for a 215 Buick V8 to Model A frame? Any universal ones available?
I would buy stock mounts (they're available for five bucks a side from rockauto.com), bolt them to the engine, put the engine where it belongs, then fill in the gap between the frame and the mount with appropriate steel tube, flat plate, angle, etc. I guess you could say this is the "universal" approach, since it takes a lot of work. Like most "universal" parts do.
@squirrel is Spot On! The factory mounts are hard to beat for anchoring the engine and easily adapted to your ch***is rails. I have done several Buick V6 and V8 engine swaps over the decades. One thing I discovered early on with stock mounts…..it is easier with a narrow and boxed frame to weld the frame side of the mount in place than bolt it in, but it then is easier to R & R the engine by unbolting the mount from both the block and frame mount, then re-install the engine mount after the engine is swung back into position. Here's what I did for my motor mount in my A. I reused the stock Model A transmission mounts. I moved then forward the fabricated new mounts for the engine. Add a standard flathead cushion and a little powder coat and we are set to go.
