Cleaning out my parents attic, not too many treasures, though some. One thing I found was my grandfathers World War I U.S. Army footlocker. The key for the lock is long gone. Is there a good way, or even a bad way, to get a key (or something that works?) made without a lot of drama? I suspect they only had a few key types. Gonna clean it up and and use it. Still in good shape, but the lock is awkward without a key.
Hey Truck64, My wife, (Whose nickname is "GOOGLE!) was p***ing by as I looked at this lock picture. She said try a local fire department or 2. She says many times they have many old keys that might work. Or a locksmith!! It looks to me like the key is broken off in the lock? Just trying to help out. Good Luck. Tony
Yeah, a Locksmith would be the obvious thing, but if it's going to be $150 or something like that, it isn't worth it. It's not broken off in the lock, that's the style of key/lock, they are hollow keys. I did find an old key that actually fits, and tried it out, hoping it was my lucky day. Not today unfortunately. I'll have to check my junk drawer. The Fire Department might be worth checking out I guess, thanks for the tip!
If none of that works, before you break the lock off, check the local antique stores for rings of old keys. You might get lucky.
Yeah, I actually found one online. Just haven't ordered it yet. About $40 delivered, a locksmith said that was cheaper than he could make one.
