Was thinking about that when I saw the car, got a chuckle out of the tag. Kickass ride.

I like Bob Gratton's 5 window. I'm kinda partial to Bob and those Tampa boys anyway. Ron

@HOTRODPRIMER Not trying to offend you, or anyone who loves '32s. I get it. I've seen plenty of chopped Mercs, & I have one I'm gonna chop. I have another icon- a '40 Deluxe Coupe. Neither is groundbreaking, but I love 'em. But, it's starting to look like the car shows I don't attend anymore, because every other car is a late model Camaro or Mustang. ("Yeah, but this one's blue, and that ones red!") I'd just like to see somebody build something to stand out from the crowd, if they are going for some top 10 pick. Where's the chopped Chrysler Airflow? How about a full on '20s Cadillac? Center door "T"? My best guess, is that you can't call 1-800-NEW-BODY and get anything but a deuce. Seems these awards go to the builders who have the most details done to the reproduction frames & bodies. Great cars all, and way nicer than I can build, but a six figure build doesn't have to look just like the other 6 figure build. Does it?

  9. I guess one of us is gonna have to step up. As far as 32s go, I hardly stop to look at em unless its some kind of survivor and I’m a fan of 32s.
I guess I gravitate towards the oddball stuff now. Wagons, step vans, flatbed trucks crap even a well done 4 door.
But the title for this particular award has “hot rod” in it . So I guess we won’t see any Airflows.
We went so long longing for traditional to come back that when it did I guess some of us see it now as white noise. The formula is so simple, maybe it’s confusing us. 1-800 new steel body, standard big and littles on a new chassis. New crate engine disguised as vintage. New trans hooked up to a repop rear axle. Add some vintage looking camouflaged disc brakes. High dollar leather with a vintage vibe. Instant show winner. But hey, if that turns ya on, I’m with ya.
PS. It’s still a bunch of work and pays the bills and still better than the typical street rod.

  10. Turn wheels to left to exit. Pretty sad engineering feature on the Hot Rod of the Year.
But then it was a Goodguys event.

That radiator shroud/surround is over the top on the LS powered coupe. I am confused on the distributor though.

On a side note, none of them were owner built, except Danny's.

My coupe got one of the top 5 spots, and had 7,000 miles on it while driving it from spring, Texas to Nashville. My wife and I drove put 1900 miles on it in 9 days on that trip. No trailer for us.
