Hi Gang, I have a ‘53 Chevy 3100 and I moved the gas tank to the bed, and removed the tank behind the seat. But the mounts on the floor are a puzzle~ They aren't bolted or welded (as far as I can tell). Could these two mounts be glued? They don’t budge even a little when using a crow bar. Any ideas how these were mounted so I can get them out without trashing the floor itself? Thank you! Jim
...I've removed a lot of those, maybe they were spot welded from the factory, can't remember, mite have to cut em off in pieces then grind off the welds.
Thank You~ That didn’t occur to me. I’ll do that and if I can find the spot welds I’ll drill ‘em out, weld it up and grind. Jim
I didn’t find any nuts underneath, but just to make it more difficult, someone added an undercoating to the cab (I’m not really complaining, it’s all rust free). Thank you! Jim
Here’s what the real deal was: The two brackets were spot welded every 1 1/2” staggered, with a weld on the back wall end, and are attached to the stock seat mount. I used a few different cutting wheels to chop it into 3 different pieces and used an air chisel to bust the spot welds (and the other welds). I then welded patches where there was small holes near the back wall. I’m not looking for perfection here, just clean and smooth enough to install sound deadening and carpet. Job done- looks good- moving on~
Beats the hell out of bashing up your fingers while holding a cold chisel and hitting it with a 2-1/2 lb hammer before getting a pair of pliers to hold the chisel with.
