    Hello all,
I am wanting to put a windshield frame in my '33 coupe. Has anyone used one of the aftermarket versions available. If so which one is the best?
    Thanks for all your input

I suspect they may be manufactured by the same set up. I have had them from Drake & Moss and could not tell the difference. Both excellent! However, that was about 10/12 years back and they were unchromed as I needed to chop them.

The Drake, CW Moss etc were all made by a fella named Donald Trautwein. He had some health issues and was not making them for a while. I don't know if he is back in production or not. I got my last one from Speedway and it looked identical to my Drake unit, except for the Speedway frame is not available chrome.

A quick trip to ChromeplaterJosh's crew and it was ready to go.

  5. The fellow making the windshield frames was Walter Trautwein, not Donald. Walt has p***ed away, and his son Tom Trautwein is making them now.

Walter, you are right. I spoke to him on the phone a few times seemed to be a neat old guy. Sorry to hear of his p***ing.

Bought one for my 34 from So Cal sent it out to a local gl*** shop for gl*** installation. Cracked two pieces of gl*** after installation. Gl*** shop wouldn't touch it again. I sent the frame to a custom gl*** shop in Oregon and they discovered the frame had a twist causing stress on the gl*** and cracking same. .So Cal made good on a new frame and end of the day, spent more money than expected but all worked out. Check the frame on a true flat surface before attempting gl*** installation. Good luck
