Hers a pic of Stan Betz's shop truck from the 50's,Flamed and striped by Von Dutch. There are 3 copies,i have one, Stan has one and my classmate from Anaheim who took the pic. Stan was very close with "Dutch" in those days.By the way the pickup had a "pancaked" hood which was chock full of louvers punched by Stan.
Cruzr - Interesting. Wish that was a color photo. It actually seems more like the "reality" style flames that are popular today than what we think of as "traditional" hot rod flames. Wonder if anybody here has a shot of the '55 Mercedes gull-wing coupe that was supposedly Dutch's very first "flame" job? The flames on it were quite different too. I remember they started all around the bottom edge of the car - rather than flowing from the front, as became the popular trend. Looked more like the car was sitting still and the ground beneath it was on fire.
Stan292 I am not familiar with that Mercedes, where did you hear that?? Anyway yea the Flames are much different than now, but Early Dutch was very different altogether. His stripes were more angled than curvy. That photo as i said came from my old high school buddy,i had Stan sign it last week, and also authenicate it was "Dutch" that Flamed the truck.
uh oh, better hide that photo before corporate executives want to slap it on the back of 19 year old girls' pants.
