I am watching it right now, and I can't believe these guys got picked for a show. They fabricate like a bunch of farmers. No Brake, they just cut slots and fold over a table edge. They did have an English wheel though. His comment about designing as they go, instead of planning things out really impressed me too. How the hell could you give a customer an estimate on anything, working like that?
Thanks. It's only 6:40 PM here in SoCal and I was debating whether to stay up to watch this episode or not. I was up at 4:00 AM this morning and my butt is draggin', I would hate to think that I stayed up to watch some shadetree bubbas...
How many different styles could they mix on ONE truck??? and they sure are looking like bubbas... "yeah, we got a few fit problems".....
OK, The big guy, the one that swallowed a whole lifetime supply of leaky Helium bottles, He did say 3.2 Million right? What crap!
I don't think the truck turned out terrible, but it definitely looks like they tried to blend too many different styles. The front end treatment looked like Trepanier's Car, the interior looked like the Batmobile, and their method of Construction doesn't exactly strike me as professional. The difference between what it looked like as it was being built, and what it finished out like, makes me think that a whole lot of Bondo'ing didn't get filmed. And the squeaky voice crap. He told TLC he did it on purpose, talked normal for a few seconds, then went back to squeaking. I was talking to my wife and missed his reason for doing it. Did anybody hear it?
[ QUOTE ] Im really doughting they built that in 90 days .. [/ QUOTE ] he did say he pulled his guys off customer cars for 90 days, not the best business decision... whatever.
[ QUOTE ] He did say 3.2 Million right? What crap! [/ QUOTE ] Yes he did, that was just to cover the BONDO bill. Billy
That thing is the most awful looking piece of shit I"ve seen ever! And than they paint it flat black to look like a wanna be traditionalist! Butt ugly! Looks like Michael Jackson should love it!
He said his voice has always been like that but once in a while it comes out normal - like he can do it when he wants to. Why would anyone talk like that if they didn't have to? Wierd
The truck was quite awkward, those mercedes headlights people are using are really starting to piss me off. Maybe that is just me though.
JimC, You insult Radshit like that again and you and I are going to have some words out behind the garage.. and that voice is real.
Except for the headlights, (I hate those mercedes headlights)the truck looked good. C,mon man, they made the whole thing. Who cares about the dramatics for television. Turn off the sound and watch a very custom ride being built.
I believe the 3.2 million thing was a joke(he used his normal voice for it).It seemed to be directed at or making fun of either Boyd or OCC....................
"C,mon man, they made the whole thing. Who cares about the dramatics for television. Turn off the sound and watch a very custom ride being built." Actually, the dramatics weren't as bad as in some of the other shows. The problem I have with it is the fact that TLC is passing them off as a High-end professional Rod Shop. The fabrication techniques, and just the way they went about the build in General seemed pretty amateur to me. If they had done a little more measuring, they wouldn't have had to do so much pounding and Cutting when it came time to put the Body and Bed back on the Chassis. The remark he made about designing as they build, instead of planning as much as possible in advance, would be enough to make me turn around and take my money somewhere else if I were a paying customer.
You do have a point about planning, but what about Billy and Indian Larry? They don't plan shit! Then again a bike and a car are differnt......... I think this is what happens when you don't "plan"...
I didn't like the truck. I didn't like the wheels. I didn't like the massive ammounts of bondo they used. But the only thing that makes me mad is how they don't show half of the fab work that goes into those cars. They cut the top off the cab, went to a commercial, came back, and it was chopped and finished. Oh well.
i like how the curved the rear of the bed to flow with the fenders. i thought was cool and neat. the front was gay, would've looked a lot better stock. the choice of wheels was lame, i was thinking they would've put some steelies on it with wide-whites, but what do i know. anyone else not like the addition of the LS1? what was up with that?

[/ QUOTE ] I agree. Wonder if their customers who watched were thinking 'no wonder it cost so much to do that, they had to redo it 3 times to get it right'! Scary.
I just noticed the new thread...sorry... _____________________________________________________ Scott's Rods = Poop... High Pitch Eric(from Howard Stern) without the glasses has NO STYLE...!! No previous 'thoughts' or 'planning', just 'build as you go'..?? True Craptsmanshit if you ask me... everything from the Mercedes headlights, to the flat black afterthought of a paint job, (come ON..!! for a one off 'custom'..?? no pride...) to the ugly dash/center console, to the ultra Ugly-Dub-ling wheels, to the way too laid-back windshield... That abortion of a vehicle has got to be a true showing of the wasted time/'talent' at that shop... Come on guys, get off the crack..!!! I guess you either have style, or you don't have style... My 10 cents... Later, Snacks... p.s.- Glad you survived your ordeals Rick..!! Damn....
the bike guys might not right it down, but they have a vision and know what it is there going to build. not sticking this and that on there as they go. gota have "vision"
What's really funny is this... a buddy of mine who stopped by at the end of the show, (who is mostly into muscle cars and the like), saw the part where they showed the 'before' pics, and my buddy says, "Damn, it looked way better then..!" BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA...!!!!! Like I said, what a waste of time...

[/ QUOTE ] Even considering that these shows are aimed at kids (and streetrodders) who, for the most part have no concept of building a car, I wonder if there was any consideration by the "stars" of what the seasoned hot rodder would think of their construction techniques. When Boyd's crew ripped out the floor of that'56 to install the brace, I died laughing - since all they had to do was slip it in and weld it with the floor in place. The gaffs by supposedly top notch builders are glaring, for the most part, to anyone who has actual experience in building. The OCC guys show that their "custom" bikes come off the shelf - not from fabrication. Does the money (I wonder just how much is involved) make it worth exposing a lack of knowledge to their peers, or is it that these guys don't care? While I don't know any of these builders personally, the ones I do know wouldn't prostitute themselves. I guess there are enough people willing to throw money at someone who is on TV ( "My car was built by 'insert name here' ") that they laugh all the way to the bank, reputation be damned.
