Technical 36 Ford headlights Mounting to a Fender less car/Truck

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JNKYARDDOG_1, Dec 8, 2019.

  1. Any one mount 36 Ford headlights to a 32-4 Ford truck/car fender less? Even model A's or such.

If so what did you use for a mount?

I think these lights are DAMNED ***Y

I would remove the inside mount from the '36 lights and install the outside mount from a pair of junk earlier or commercial Ford lights, BLC, Arrow, Guide, or ?? headlights. If you can't find junk lights; OTB gear sells new mount flange kits.
With an outside mount and it's smaller diameter bolt)you can use about any headlight stand. On the other hand those '36 fishbowls may look out of place on a fender-less hot rod.

  5. I was thinking the same thing, Using another mount of a earlier light. But after what you said the fish bowls may look silly !

Might have to remount grill and such and looky see....

I have the fenders for my 34 but they need a ton of work and I've been working on the body and replacing all of the wood support structure with steel tubing. So for in interim, I made these.
If I was to make something more permanent, I would have them bolt to the top of the frame rails, instead of where the front spreader bar mounts.

But the idea is the same.

Just look up your state law for how low they can be (for Oklahoma, its a height of not more than fifty-four (54) inches nor less than twenty-two (22) inches to be measured as set forth in subsection B of Section 12-202). Then make a bracket that bolts to the frame. Then make a bracket that the headlight post will bolt to and allow it be adjustable. Then connect the two (I used 1" solid round steel). Mine jiggle too much cause I mounted them to the sides of the frame, but they would be a lot more solid if they had a shorter upright (if mounted to the top of the frame rail). If mine were more permanent, Id also make them look more pretty and less utilitarian.

These are Marchal.... very Art Deco... I ended up breaking that project and sold the lights. I always regretted it but managed to find another mint pair... sat on the shelf gathering dust.

  13. If it helps, '35 car and '38-'39 truck headlights are the same other than having a longer mounting stud than the '36 lights. Either the '35 car/'35-'39 truck lens and ring or the '36 car lens and ring will fit the bucket. I have '36 lenses and rings on my '38 truck.
