I've got a 4 speed on mine, but the T5 will bolt up with a muncie type bellhousing. I put a tremec 5 speed in place of the muncie in my corvette and it was simple. The throwout bearing and all that should match up if you are already set up for a muncie. You will have to change the clutch plate to a fine spline from the course muncie spline.....

I thought about replacing the Super T-10 behind the 401 in my '55 Special with a T5, but everything I've read says even the World Class T5 wouldn't hold up to the high torque from a Nailhead. I'd be interested in hearing of anyone's experience with one.

There's an article in the latest Rod & Custom (October '06) about adapters and such for T5s. Check it out.

  6. I have a T5 behind a Flathead 6 in my 51F1 it is a really nice change from that non-syncro 4 speed trans. Just watch out for the amount (foot pounds) of torque if you plan to use the S-10 5 speed is only good for around 270 as I recall.

This was a feature in TRJ #30 on two coupes built by Brizio, one with a nailhead backed by a T5. Bendtsens (http://www.transmissionadapters.com/) sell a very nice adapter. Haven't run one behind a nailhead but I had T5 behind a flathead and the best thing I liked about it was that it placed the shifter in the perfect spot.

Eelco has an adaptor to do that too. I have a T5 from an unfinished project that I am thinking of putting in my 65 Riv. If you find anybody that has done it keep me posted! Here's a link.

world class t-5's are in mustangs and camaros theyu hold up to plenty of power way more than a nailhead is capable of. think of all the mustangs and camoaros out there with superchargers and nitrous. the strength of that trans will not be a problem behind a nailhead

I've been kickin around the same idea for about two years now. Problem is no one makes a conversion for the 322's. Currently I have an Offy adapter for my 39 trans, but what if I were to bolt the Flathead adapter to the Offy then the T-5 to that one? Anyone??????

I have done this on my 425 Nailhead. I started this adaption before there was any 364-425 to GM trans available. But I'm still not done yet.

Anyway, I have a Nailhead to Ford 39 trans adapter and one early flathead to GM trans adapter. These bolt right up (of course) and the lenght of the whole package is just right.
