Motion Pictures Identify this custom. 1935 racing film

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Jul 28, 2021.

  1. Red Hot Tires 1935. Lots of cool early racing scenes. Midgets, dirt track and brick.
The garage scenes seem to be in a real shop or at least has real cars.

  2. This “custom” is in the background of several scenes.

  3. The truck has a business name. The first part is covered up but you can make out “Plating Co”
Looks like a custom to me. Or something I’m not familiar with

More than likely a Robert Duvall designed. Ya, the windshield guy.

  5. Here’s the movie.
Has some real good race footage along with some cheesy special effects. Definitely worth watching.

  6. In one scene I can make out that the business starts with an S.
Looks like they covered up the name on purpose. It shows both sides of the truck. Both sides have the name covered up.

I think the 36 belonged to George Duval.

This truck was built in the 30`s. The early days of customs. Along with a few others. A very cool post. Thank you. IMG_20210728_0001.jpg IMG_20210728_0002.jpg IMG_20210728_0003.jpg

  12. I’ve never seen the truck before.
The sedan has always been one of my favorites.

  15. Wonder if those guys had anything to do with the race cars in the movie with the truck being in the background so much

The "Atlas Chrome", body by Frank Kurtis, simply out styled them all.

The movie truck is based on a 32 Ford roadster pickup. The lighter colored truck is based on a 29 Ford roadster pickup.

Great to see a photo from the Bruce Craig collection, nice guy out of New Jersey that was able to buy a few major collections starting back in the 1960's. He had a bit of everything going back the real early stuff on glass negatives. Glad The Revs Institute for Automotive Research has them now. Bob
