    Hello all,
New to the H.A.M.B! Have a ‘50 Merc that I need some help with . 1-Turn signals and Horn don’t work , wires have been cut . New wiring harness was ran before me , never hooked back up . 2- Horn doesn’t work . I’ve attached a pic , with circles showing what I believe is missing . Where is the best place for 50 Merc parts, people to reference what I need ? 3- Speedo isn’t working , don’t know if new one needed or it just needs some dry graphite ? Any help is greatly appreciated , as I’m new to the Merc world . Have other cl***ics , just no Mercs … thanks! Brian

For little stuff like that try Dennis Carpenter or Dearborn cl***ics maybe. A lot of those parts aren't specific to Mercury so the Ford stuff can interchange as well.

I apologize that I can't give you the link but....there is a link here on the HAMB on how to sort the wires on your turn signal switch (***uming you have color coded "new" wiring up to the switch). if there are no colors left on the wiring that actually affixes to the switch. If the wiring still has a little color you will then need the wiring diagram which will delineate which wire goes to which location.

If you have the wiring diagram you should be able to determine how to wire in the horn.

On the Speedometer you might just take it off the transmission and (if it is like the speedometers that I have dealt with in the past), hook a drill up to the speedo cable, have someone watch the speedo and run the drill both forward and reverse. On the Stude in the avatar...the speedometer didn't work, so I changed it out with a spare that I had. Still no operation. After more jacking around I found that the driven gear in the transmission didn't grip the cable. After getting a new driven gear the problem was fixed. Not sure in your case but maybe my experience of learning the hard way will help you.

Again, on the 53 Stude, I used a later (1958) column and thought I'd be in great shape but the switch didn't work, I had to take it out, dis***emble it, clean the contacts of over 50 years of grunge and re***emble, it works great now.

Last piece of advice.....buy the parts manuals and shop manuals for your vehicle....I am no genius or professional and with out those manuals my Stude would probably not be on the road yet.
