    Hello,

My wife and I were on our way to see the beach and harbor to get the dreary overcast days over while the sun was out. At first, the day was sunny and we decided to stop for a view of the destination. This was a typical So Cal summer day, a small swell running consistently, people spread out for social distancing, the sky perfectly blue and the sand, white hot.
    upload_2021-8-21_5-5-25.png
Our destination was that far peak (in the right one third of the photo) of the far coastal cliff area. There is a perfectly good spot to look toward San Diego and the Pacific Ocean as far as you can see. This day is the type of day we call a 100 mile view. It definitely replaced the overcast/foggy few days.

The typical summer day scenario is 3-4 days of hot weather and then the offshore builds up a fog bank out by Catalina. The prevailing winds blow the fog bank ashore as the land cools. Then the next day, the battle begins again with the land heating up and pushing the fog away.

The 57 Chevy Bel Air was another highlight that popped up in front of our car. The on ramp was coming up fast and the traffic was approaching a stop light. So, I took a quick, infinity focus photo with my digital camera, as fast as I could. Then the traffic moved onto the ramp and the 57 Chevy Bel Air was headed for the coastal scene.

The time it took to catch up with the 57 Chevy was too quick with the flow of the on-ramp traffic. So, the Blue and Silver 1957 Bel Air Chevy just kept on going, while we were headed up the coast.

Note: What a difference mother nature takes and gives. In the last two days, the big Southern Hemisphere swell rolled into So Cal and the waves are tremendous. So, the weather is the same bright, sunny day, but the waves are making one last summer excursion toward the South facing beaches. (with emphasis!)

With the high tides and big waves, the low level beaches are being blasted with big waves/erosion. The sand level parking lots are not the best place to be, either is walking along the surf line. Stay safe...

I had an opportunity for a great photo through my windshield early this morning, but I was solo and driving my T Roadster so thought I'd better not try to take a picture too.

I was leaving Evansville, IN after a day at the Frog Follies on Friday, heading West back toward Missouri. The sun was still pretty low behind me and the silhouette of the car showed as a long shadow on the road in front of me, including the darkened tint of the windshield. I thought about pulling over to the shoulder to take a photo, but it just wouldn't have been as cool as it showing on the West bound lane of Hwy 62.

    Hello,

I was looking at the Sprinter van across the street while waiting for the green light on my side. I was going to get a part for a refrigerator. While looking across the street, thoughts of camping and getting a Sprinter van for a simple place to stay for a week or so down the line came to the forefront.

My wife had mentioned it would be a different way to get outdoors. She has always liked a station wagon and pulling a small Airstream trailer. But, this would be a lot easier on the two old bodies. It might be possible, once this pandemic is not closing down schools and everything.

One day, she saw a grey Sprinter van that had its doors open on the side, in a parking lot and thought it was set up pretty nicely, with at least space for two adults and a small dog. We could even stand up to put things away in the upper cabinets if necessary and not walk around like hunched over, “Lurch.”

The way things are going, being out in the open might be the last refuge for traveling instead of staying in a resort hotel. But, as we have experienced roadside camping during our surf adventures and forays into Baja Mexico, it wasn’t bad at the time as there were only a few friends and their vans.

Now, a endless supply of several brands of Sprinter vans have now been the so called "improvements" over the Surf vans from the 60s. We are beginning to see them on most surface streets anywhere. The problem is the access to putting those Sprinter vans in our small two car garage. There is no way possible, so who wants a hotel sitting outside of your residence?

We still have thoughts of owning a 55 Chevy Station Wagon with an attached Airstream trailer. But the convenience of no towing, similar or more comfortable accommodations keeps leaning our way. Or at least my wife’s way. I do not like towing or backing up with a trailer, but it sure looks good sitting still.

Well a stop light memory at looking at that white van had a surprise. A neat little sloped grille was poking out from the other side of the huge white wall. A 1934 Ford something. A red color was all it took to quickly break out the camera and shoot randomly to get a shot or two.

By the time I got the digital camera out, pointed and shot a couple of photos, the stoplight had changed and the on coming traffic moved first. Then our side light changed and people probably thought here was a crazy person taking a photo of the nicely planted intersection plants. But, the camera caught a blur of a red 34 Ford 4 door sedan with a happy hot rod guy driving going the opposite way.

    Jnaki

We had seen this 4 door 1934 Ford sedan in other places, but never on the streets of our cruising/errand areas. So, this was a surprise. Dual suicide doors is a very cool feature.
