One fill up from NY to Cali...with a Bonneville visit, just another innovation by a clever builder and Artist...well maybe 2 or 3 at 25 cents a gallon...;)

Well I'm late to the party. Outstanding car, story, and work. Someone already said it but I'll second it, Todd your threads are Grade A, there are none better. And that's a paint booth!

I had to go back and find what you were referring to because I didn't remember seeing the tank. And after looking again I didn't see anything I recognized as a tank. ...and then wow - that's like a boat tank setup!

I don't think I've seen someone do this before. Ok let's build a little roadster, but one with extremely high fuel capacity. Interesting!

It's funny you know...Dick was not your average Hotrodder and since his construction was so out of the box it could easily be argued as non Traditional...but as I always say it still is more than worthy of being here regardless...His influence certainly didn't go by unnoticed...I'm so glad to see it being returned to it's Heyday...Art comes to life literally...

Very few builders put design to paper that we see but Dick did it in style...I would sure like to see more of his Hotrod Art...

  17. If you know 27 roadster bodies you can see the tons of detail he did to clean it up. Around the top of the seat back, the mods to the turtledeck and below the bun panel. The reworked decklid. Just amazing design

I thought I knew this car fairly well, because I studied it pretty closely when it won the AMBR. I never noticed that "bun panel" mod, though; I like it a lot.

Pin punch or drill bit?...many did this to their Airtools and such at the former Aircraft Company I worked for...It looked usually pretty scrawled but sure made Identifying the culprit who had you stuff easier...that was long before vibroetching...again soul is all over these vintage masterpieces and it really gives one pause...

This detail adds interesting character to the '27 and ties it into belly pan better than the stock panel would...

I want to see this car in person.

Thank you for sharing the details of the restoration. It's beautiful.

Just looked through all the photos, guess the original welds on the doors were in good shape. Bob

I agree it looks good, but I would guess it was a work around, fixing a rusted compound curved panel.
The rounded rear rolled pan as an example of the state of metal working in the 50’s.
